By Stephen Dinan, founder and CEO of The Shift Network
One of the joys of being part of The Shift Network is highlighting the most brilliant and innovative ways to transform consciousness and make practical changes in lives around the world.
The Enneagram is one of these powerful vehicles for personal and social transformation — a map of our deeper psyche that not only helps us understand ourselves but spurs insight into creativity, team-building, collaboration and more. It has fascinating applications in fields from coaching to therapy to business development to recovery.
This is why we are delighted to feature the second annual The Enneagram Global Summit 2015 (last year’s was a huge hit with the 15,000 registrants) – Click here to register free.
The Enneagram Global Summit brings together the most significant thought leaders in the space including Russ Hudson, Helen Palmer, Hameed Ali and 20 others — to explore the leading edge thinking on Enneagram and its practical applications in the world — from parenting to intimate relationships, to the prison system and beyond.
In this edition of The Catalyst, we feature inspiring articles about the Enneagram from summit presenters Sandra Maitri, Andrea Isaacs, and Tracy Tresidder. We also have a beautiful and powerfully transparent Member Profile from Susan Olesek, another summit presenter and the founder of The Enneagram Prison Project. (See Shift Philanthropy.)
We are also delighted to share an article from our very own Ben Hart, Director of Marketing, who recently represented The Shift Network at The Fuji Declaration ceremonies in Japan. This global celebration called for people of all nations and walks of life to consciously evolve with each other and with nature to bring that new world into being. (See Featured Videos and Featured Article.)
We also have sad and grateful hearts about the passing of our friend and longtime peacebuilder Louise Diamond. Louise had a lifetime of service to humanity, bridging spirituality and practical international peacebuilding. We are republishing a letter from Louise announcing her final stage of life and her gift to all of us — an extensive free resource of writings and videos. (See Member Profile)

The Fuji Declaration — Symphony of Peace Prayers
The Fuji Declaration is an invitation to people from all nations and walks of life to join in a commonality of purpose beyond borders and a call to consciously evolve with each other and with nature to bring that new world into being. The launching of this powerful declaration was just held, along with the 11th annual Symphony of Peace Prayers, at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan and Ben Hart of the Shift Network hosted the global broadcast of the event.
The program included peace prayers from religious leaders from many different faiths, prayers for every country of the world in their native language and powerful speeches and music.
Mr. Hiroo Saionji — Values behind the Fuji Declaration
Mr Saionji is President of the Goi Peace Foundation founded in Tokyo, Japan with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. He is also President of The World Peace Prayer Society a non profit organization with headquarters in New York. He is known for launching the initiative for Creating a New Civilization and his “4-S Concept” integrating the four pillars of sustainability, systems, spirituality and science.

The Enneagram: A Tool to Support One's Spiritual Work
By Sandra Maitri
The first time I heard anything about the enneagram was in the backyard of Claudio Naranjo’s house in Berkeley in the fall of 1971. He had just returned from Chile where he had been studying with the Bolivian mystic, Oscar Ichazo, in the desert city of Arica far to the north. Claudio, who was a psychiatrist, had fleshed out the enneagram teaching conveyed by Ichazo with his vast understanding of psychology. Upon his return to California, Claudio announced that he was starting a group dedicated to spiritual transformation and a number of us had gathered that autumn afternoon to find out more about it. From the moment he presented the enneagram that day as the major psychological tool that would be used in the group, I was fascinated by the system. It was such an accurate map of the ego structure in its nine archetypal variations that I was galvanized . . . [read more]
Change Can Be Easy with the Enneagram and Body Wisdom
By Andrea Isaacs
Knowing, or rather, embodying the Enneagram has changed my life, and I think it can change yours as well.
The Enneagram personality system gives us incredibly beautiful, accurate, insightful and helpful descriptions of human nature. It’s information I can’t imagine living without and has been useful in every relationship in my life . . . [read more]
Knowing Me Knowing Them: Understand Your Parenting Personality
By Tracy Tresidder
Being a parent is one of the most challenging, interesting, stressful and rewarding roles we will ever take on. It’s one of the toughest jobs we’ll do and we set extremely high expectations for ourselves on how we perform in the role.
To thrive as effective parents in this world, we need to be able to question our own parenting style in ways that go much deeper than simple questions like “Was I too strict?” or “Am I too easy on him?” . . . [read more]

An Ending and a Beginning — Letter from Louise Diamond
Dear Friends,
I have reached that moment when, for health and age reasons, it’s time to bring my professional life to a gentle close. I am celebrating that passage by making my life’s work available to all on a new/renewed website: www.louisediamond.com.
In addition to much of the writing I’ve done over four decades (books, articles, e-newsletters, etc.), I’ve also included on this site the material from many of the courses I’ve taught, lectures I’ve given, and films or videos I’ve made.
The highlight of this last category is my new video memoir: Shazam! Stories from a Life of Spirit-in-Action. Not having the mental attention to write my memoirs, and having lived a most exciting and somewhat extraordinary life, I’ve chosen to share special moments of my journey by telling stories on video, with plenty of pictures for visual interest. I count it a great blessing that I can share this gift with you . . . [read more]
Seeing Shadows
By Susan Olesek
It was dark out as I approached my parked car one night last month, but I saw the light was on inside the vehicle. Seeing a shadow inside, I felt an eerie, gut-sinking-knowing that someone was in the front passenger's seat. In a bizarre instant, I realized that I was being robbed. I felt at once terrified and equally incensed at the injustice, but kept walking towards my vehicle despite my mounting panic. What do I do? I asked myself, turning and looking frantically around . . . [read more]

The Enneagram Prison Project — The Shift Network is delighted to support and promote The Enneagram Prison Project — a non-profit dedicated to serving the incarcerated and their potential future. Founder, Susan Olesek, writes, "In bearing witness to the courageous inner-work taking place in the unlikely place that is prison, I became downright convinced that the benefit of self-understanding through the lens of the Enneagram is a critical missing piece for real criminal reform." We invite you to support The Enneagram Prison Project. To learn more, click here. |

Kristin Hoffman
By Ben Hart
At the Fuji Declaration ceremonies in Japan (see featured article), I was inspired by feeling part of a global family committed to taking the next steps in our collective evolution. A big part of the celebration was music and singer/songwriter Kristin Hoffman provided an exquisite experience of how music can and does open and connect us. Kristin says her goal is "to spread love, light, peace and truth into the world through the vehicles of music and energetic frequency." Kristin, along with musical director Kenji Williams and other great musicians and singers, created a powerful, beautiful and deeply transformative space that moved thousands of people’s hearts. I highly recommend Kristin’s music if you are looking for a moving experience. To learn more and to hear her music, click here.
