By Stephen Dinan, founder and President of The Shift Network
If you’ve ever taken a yoga class that included Tibetan singing bowls… or experienced the beneficial effects of a tuning fork… or felt a sense of peace wash over you during a drumming circle…
… you’ve experienced the healing power of sound, and benefited from an approach that dates back thousands of years...
It will come as no surprise then that cultures from around the world have used vibrational medicine to treat illness, revitalize the body, and elevate the spirit.
Sound therapy has been remarkably successful in treating everything from fibromyalgia to digestive issues to autoimmune disorders…
These modalities have also lessened the tremors in Parkinson’s patients, calmed autistic adults, and brought a sense of safety and peace to homeless shelter residents.
These therapeutic sound-healing tools can be deeply transformative — and help you enjoy a healthier and more peaceful, grounded, and resonant life…
That’s why I’m so pleased to invite you to our first-ever Sound Healing Global Summit, a free online event from September 9–13.
More than 35 of today’s most respected experts, sound-healing pioneers, and practitioners, including Eileen McKusick, Jonathan Goldman, John Beaulieu, Christine Stevens, Chloë Goodchild, Deva Premal and Miten, Barbara Borden, Steven Halpern, Mona Delfino, John Stuart Reid...
… will be sharing the curative and evolutionary powers of proven sound-healing therapies, enabling you to create vibrant health for you, your family, and your clients.
Please join us for this transformative 4-day event! You can register for free here.
We hope you’re enjoying our newest section, “The Nicest Thing,” a special video series in which we ask prominent authors, thought leaders, and others to answer the question, “What is the nicest thing a non-family member has ever done for you?” Their revealing and uplifting stories offer glimpses into the personal lives of people you already know and admire.
The stories in this issue come from four featured speakers in the upcoming Sound Healing Global Summit: Mona Delfino, a quantum shaman and energy medicine practitioner... Kelvin Young, co-founder of Toivo, a nonprofit initiative that includes statewide classes, workshops, and a center for holistic healing and stress management…
… and encore interviews with summit speakers Christine Stevens, the founder of UpBeat Drum Circles... and Eileen McKusick, the founder of Biofield Tuning, a groundbreaking sound-therapy modality...
… plus, Natalia Karoway, a course host and course manager for The Shift Network. Look for stories from other members of the Shift team in future issues. We look forward to having you get to know us better!
We’d love to hear your answer to the question, What sound-healing modalities do you find most intriguing? To share your thoughts in our Facebook Page community, click here.
Tones themselves correspond with and affect specific areas of the body. The ancients understood that a simple sound could reorganize the body’s structure. Sounds that are harmonious activate the body and create healing.

In this special video series, prominent authors, performers, thought leaders, and others answer the question, “What is the nicest thing a non-family member has ever done for you?”
Mona Delfino’s Story
EXCERPT: “However, he's going to want to say something's wrong with it, so in order for you to sell it as fast as you want for cash, you need to tell this man, when he comes to look at it, and he will come to look at it..." I said, "... is that there's a little leak in the sink, you're going to hear a little drip once in a while, or you're going to see the closet door's going to squeak a little bit. Tell him something is the matter with it and he will buy it on the spot.”
To watch the video and read the transcript of Mona’s mind-blowing 7-minute story, click here.
Kelvin Young’s Story
EXCERPT: After about an hour and a half, I could tell he was getting tired. I gave him a rose quartz crystal, and I'll never forget him taken that crystal and putting it in between both of his hands and holding it there to his heart, holding back tears as well. He gave me the universal gesture for “namaste,” honoring each other, not knowing that would be the last time I would see him on this physical realm.

Plus, watch encore presentations of “The Nicest Thing” interviews with summit speakers Christine Stevens and Eileen McKusick.
Natalia Karoway’s Story
EXCERPT: It was a simple moment... we were sitting together and sharing, and still, it shifted me at my core. It was like this huge granting of permission. And not that I felt like I needed permission to be who I was, but it was like this self-permission and this self acceptance that came about from just those few simple words.

From Panic to Peace By Mona Delfino, a featured speaker in the Sound Healing Global Summit
After a while of being around people, she would feel imperfect. Her subconscious was telling her that she would never be “up to par” and she began to retreat internally. When we were talking about it, she became shallow in her breathing and fear set in. I began to run energy in her to help calm her nerves in order to continue working.

Mindfulness Meditation, Serendipity, Simultaneous Sound Healing, and Brainwave Entrainment /Entertainment By Steven Halpern, PhD, a featured speaker in the Sound Healing Global Summit
Most everyone believes that music is a powerful healing force. But what exactly does that mean? And can the right music help millions of us “self-orchestrate on the spectrum of consciousness” to “tune our human instrument” and support healing and optimal wellbeing… without even trying? I have always believed the answer is “yes.”

As We Celebrate the 15th Anniversary of 11 Days of Global Unity September 11–21, What Can WE Do Together That We Can’t Do On Our Own? By Rick Ulfik, Founder of We, The World and the WE Campaign at WE.net
Saving our planet is not a spectator sport! Back in the 1990s I used to be a full-time musician who appreciated the work of Amnesty International, Greenpeace, and other groups that were creating a better world. Unfortunately, though, it didn’t seem like the world was getting better.

Full Circle By Ed Klemz
One day, my mom walked into the guard shack, which she had to walk through to get into the building she worked in. Charlie wasn’t at his desk to buzz her in, so she used her card, entered the building and went up to her office… She walked back downstairs, stood on a pipe, looked over the top of the security counter and saw Charlie lying on the floor. He had had a heart attack and was lying behind the counter where no one could see him.

This conference is designed to co-envision and co-create education in Unity in Diversity. Religions are many but their inner wisdom is one — and wisdom of science converges with it. This unifying wisdom of science and spirituality can bridge interfaith differences, build harmonious communities, and create collective will to work together for our common and planetary good. This conference highlights the Yuga teachings of Sri Yukteswar, as described in the book, The Holy Science. CPAK features presentations by authors, scientists, and independent researchers exploring the ancient idea that consciousness and history move in a vast cycle of time with alternating Dark and Golden Ages. Plato called it “The Great Year.” This once-universal belief, since relegated to fairy tale, is finding increasing support in new interpretations of myth and folklore, discoveries of anomalous artifacts, revisions of archeological site dating, astronomical insights, linguistic studies, and new theories of consciousness. Please join us at CPAK to explore our rich and astonishingly beautiful history — and rediscover the wisdom of the ancients.

The well-being of the Earth, and all peoples, depends on our consciousness of this interconnectedness. Modern science, and all spiritual paths with heart, support this wisdom. Eliot Eidelman
I’ve been writing songs since I was a child. The combination of music and poetry has always felt right to me as a means of creative expression: the music brings emotion and dynamism to the words, and the words introduce storytelling and human perspective to the music.
I’m often inspired by history, literature, cinema, geography, and personal experience in my lyric writing. My latest album, Handheld Recordings, Vol. 3: Sally Forth!, was influenced by my reading of Cervantes’s Don Quixote and research on medieval troubadours, channelled through the lens of a contemporary American touring singer-songwriter.
My current day job is leading historical walking tours of New Orleans, in which I include original songs to reflect the perspectives of historical figures and structures, awakening the city’s storied past and bringing it into focus in the present. I believe songwriting as an art form has the potential to emotionally connect with audiences and fundamentally alter the ways they perceive reality.
