The Sattva Summit: Current Times Call for Us to Transcend Positionality & Come Together in Unity
By Anand Mehrotra
“We are currently living in the Earth time of Dwapara Yuga,” noted Swami Sri Yukteswar in his book, The Holy Science. The yogic understanding of Dwapara Yuga is that is is the age of information and technology. It is a higher age than Kali Yuga, which is the dark, densest period. We are in the beginning stages of Dwapara Yuga. One of the biggest threats we are now facing is that we are losing our signs of intelligence; it is in the hands of our neurosis. Because we are in the first phase of this time, it is the Kali Yuga within Dwapara Yuga, the Dark Age within the Twilight Age. As we look around the world the fastest hour that is arising is separation. People are confused as to their own identity.
There is fear being served on a platter in every place. This fear of politics has really impacted everywhere. For instance, what occurred in America, where there is a disappointment that people experienced politically, is a reflection of the need of a profound shift in the human psyche in how we are living. We have to realize that this is a democracy and a chosen leader just reflects the collective state of the consciousness of the people.
For those of us who are really practicing yoga, to think that one leader can change the country or the world is naïve! It is a victim state of consciousness to think that there is someone out there who can make the world or destroy it. It is the collective state of consciousness that is at work. Dwapara Yuga allows that no one person can single-handedly destroy this world; so there is a profound importance right now for those of us who are awake and have reached a certain level of awareness to come together in a renewed, deeper manner — a gathering of lighthouses. We must transcend boundaries and national, religious and vertical identities, for an enlightened person cannot be based in any positionality. If we have a positionality, no matter how charming it seems, ultimately it is an invitation to put us in conflict with the other.
These times call for us to transcend all positionalities. This is one of the main teachings of yoga. As we go deeper into our self-realization and unity consciousness, we start to drop positionality; we cannot be contained any more by political, religions, social or national identity. This does not mean that we don’t serve the land we live in. We just no longer buy into an isolated idea of a country, which is separated from the whole. We are citizens of the world; we are citizens of the cosmos; we are citizens of the infinite. We are the infinite.
It is really important during this time that we correct our intellect and come together with people from all over the world with a shared, sincere intention. And as we are still in the Kali Yuga phase within Dwapara, as awake people come together we can create something powerful which will have a positive impact on the world. An event like Sattva Summit is designed for just that. It is an intimate gathering so that we can get to know each other beyond the labels. The Summit is set in the lower Himalayas on a river, allowing you to return to nature, to the elements, and come back to Gaia, the Divine Mother, the sacred feminine nature, and tune into your own power.
The Sattva Summit is about going deep with each other and connecting the global family to celebrate our existence! And as this happens collectively, there can be acceleration in the evolution of humanity as a whole. A tipping point can be reached where the collective state of consciousness is more awake than asleep — and that is what is going to change the world.
If we are really interested in that happening, we have to sincerely look into open ways of discussing and joining our hearts and exploring the deeper aspects of who we are, through meditation, sacred rituals, the physical aspects of yoga, exploring wisdom with Masters, and conscious conversations. Yoga is a great technology to make this happen.
When we are speaking of yoga, we are speaking of the Vedantic teachings of the East; keeping this intention in mind is why we came up with Sattva Summit. The invitation is for us to realize our own summit, the highest self within.
