The Shorter Path to Heaven on Earth

By Tim Kelley

My buddy Martin Rutte and I have long and wonderful dialogues about the process by which we humans will create Heaven on Earth. It’s a miraculous thing, to be born in a time when such a conversation actually makes sense! Although Martin has spent many more years in this endeavor than I, I do have some important wisdom that has been gifted to me, which I would love to share with you.

As a change agent, one way of understanding your purpose is that you have a role to play in creating Heaven on Earth. Your individual purpose is the unique combination of your essence, skills and qualities that enables you to have this impact. If you accept that you are part of the construction squad, working on this great project, then there are a few things it would benefit you to understand.

One very important principle is that Heaven on Earth contains a balance of masculine and feminine (in contrast to the masculine-heavy paradigm of our current reality). Most people can grasp that pretty quickly. However, this has an interesting ramification: creating Heaven on Earth speaks only to the masculine process. In this version, we develop a shared vision of what Heaven on Earth would look like, and then we use our will, smarts, energy and resources to make reality look like that. This is certainly key, but not the whole picture.

What about the feminine process? After 5500 years of hierarchy and masculine thinking, we’re pretty blind to the divine feminine. The feminine side of this project is receiving Heaven on Earth, rather than creating it. Another way of saying it is to marvel at the Heaven on Earth that already exists, and to joyfully celebrate its organic unfolding.

We’re not terribly good at celebrating the Heaven on Earth we’ve already created; we change agents tend to focus on the downside of the current paradigm. This is a problem, because then we tend to try to change everything. Not only is this more work, but the new paradigm is not the opposite of the old one. We’re doing better than we ever have, and despite what the news would have you believe, things get better every day.

What if creating Heaven on Earth required us to change about 10% of our reality, because the other 90% is already here? In this frame, we would have two tasks: learn to see and celebrate the 90%, and learn to identify and change the 10%. This seems like a much less daunting task, at least to me.

One other key point: making the 10% wrong and figuring out whom to blame for it is not part of this process. Righteous indignation and finger-pointing may be fun, but it’s a long way to go to Heaven on Earth by that road. We are trying to improve a functioning system, not blame it for not having transformed already. When people switched from horses to cars, making the horses wrong for not being cars would have been the pinnacle of ungrateful rudeness. So, whoever your favorite target is (oil companies, conservatives, fast food, big tobacco, Monsanto, ISIS), start weaning yourself off the drug of blame.

What can you do right now? Look around you, and marvel at all the wonderful things that don’t need to change! Through the eyes of gratitude, you’ll begin to see that there’s a lot more Heaven on Earth already here than you had imagined. I’m pretty happy about this computer I’m writing on, and all the people and systems that will allow this message to get from me to you. There’s a lovely fig tree outside my window, my kid is laughing in the next room, I know where my next meal is coming from, and there aren’t any wild animals trying to eat me. Thank you, 5500 years of hierarchy, and all the hard-working people who created a world in which I can spend time thinking and writing about how to create Heaven on Earth!
