2020 Issue 22 • Oct 11

By Kimberly Mascaro, host of the Dreamwork Summit

What if you could fly, breathe underwater, travel to the past or future, transform into your favorite animal, or interact with a deceased loved one at will?

When you enter the world of dreams, you can. Whether lucid, incubated, or simply random, dreaming opens doors to the great mystery. The dream is a space where you can experience it all.

Beyond wild nocturnal adventures, dreams can show you who you truly are at the core, and reveal astounding potentials in support of human development.

Now that we have been sheltering-in-place for over half-a-year, people have been reporting increased dream recall and bizarre dreams. But what are dreams anyway? Are they even worth paying attention to?

The Dreamwork Summit, which I am privileged to host, takes place October 13-16. This gathering of dreamworkers from many backgrounds features over 20 speakers, including Stanley Krippner, Jean Shinoda Bolen, MD, Robert Moss, Dr. Clare Johnson, Dr. Andrew Holecek, Kahontakwas Diane Longboat, and Sergio Magaña

In this free online event, you’ll discover the relationship between dreams and health, ways to improve dream recall, how to increase dream lucidity, ways to work with dreams creatively, plants that support a good night’s sleep and strong dreaming, and how to use the dream space as a platform for spiritual development.

This 4-day summit also offers instruction in how to lead a dream group using the Ullman Method of Dream Appreciation, traditional and Indigenous ways of dreaming, dream journaling basics, and so much more. You’ll definitely get a lot out of this special summit, so I hope you’ll join us!

The big takeaway is that dreams offer incredible opportunity, and that the most important book you’ll ever own is the one you write yourself — your dream journal.

Please register here for free for the 2020 Dreamwork Summit.

I look forward to seeing you there!

This issue of Catalyst is also dedicated to the life and legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away on September 18 at the age of 87. In this tribute article, Aliah MaJon, The Shift Network's Chief Inclusion Officer, writes, "When I consider the life and contributions of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I think of her as both a powerful role model to all and a perfect example of what I call an 'Evolutionary.'"

Here is why Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death on Rosh Hashanah was especially significant for some Jewish Americans.
She was not only the first woman to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol, she was also the only person whose sole role was that of a  Supreme Court Justice.

EDITOR’S NOTE: “The Master Key” by Robert Peng, a featured speaker in The Shift Network’s 2019 Qigong Global Summit, is one of the most profoundly important books I’ve ever read. I can say that it’s life-changing with complete confidence, because it changed my life before I even finished reading it. I was so impressed with this book that we are serializing the section called “One Hundred Days of Darkness and Light” in future issues of Catalyst. You can read the twenty-third installment (as well as the previous ones) here.
— Phil Bolsta

The uplifting stories in this issue’s “The Nicest Thing” section come from two featured speakers in the Dreamwork Summit: dream shaman Robert Moss and shamanism teacher Sandra Ingerman

… and author and spiritual teacher Mark Matousek, whose new 7-week live video course, Awaken Through Writing, begins October 22.

In observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday, October 12, we'd like to share this insightful NPR article, Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples' Day? which includes a 3-minute audio overview of why we as a country are shifting the focus of this national holiday.

The Master Key
By Robert Peng, a featured speaker in The Shift Network’s 2019 Qigong Global Summit

It's 1972 in the industrial city of Xiangtan, China. A frail child with a heart condition sneaks into a hotel boiler room and befriends the elderly yet vibrant attendant, who eventually reveals his true identity as a revered Qigong master. He heals the boy and, for the next 13 years, secretly teaches him the keys to unlocking the spiritual and healing dimensions of the Life Force.

It sounds like a modern-day fable, but the story is true. And with The Master Key, that grateful student, Robert Peng, invites all of us to enter the next chapter of this empowering path. Here, Master Peng brings together the unique insights of his teacher with the moving account of his own journey.

Click here to read the twenty-second installment (as well as all the previous installments) of this profoundly moving book.

Jeralyn Glass' Story
Crystal alchemy sound healer

EXCERPT: My son was 19. His name is Dylan, Dylan Sage, and he loved the mountains. And he was a ski racer. And he and I got to travel to visit two of his best friends in Nepal and in India. And so we got to see Mount Everest. And one of our goals was to see some of the highest peaks and most famous peaks in the world, and that was just a monumental experience to share that with him. And also on our bucket list was to see Machu Picchu. And so after my son passed away and I recognized that life was never going to be able to be the way it was, he started to communicate with me through sound vibration.

Jeralyn's 7-week live video training, Bridging Heaven & Earth With the Healing Sounds of Crystal Bowls: An Alchemizing Journey for Whole-Body Nourishment, Recalibration & Bliss, begins Thursday, October 15. For more details, click here.

Mark Matousek's Story
Author and spiritual teacher

EXCERPT: There's one thing that happened that was so uncanny that I almost couldn't believe it at the time. I went through a period in my thirties when I was virtually homeless, I was a Dharma bum, I was living in India, and all over Europe, and really looking for who I was at a time when I thought that I might not be around forever. So there was a lot of pressure. There was a lot of poverty.

Mark's 7-week live video training, Awaken Through Writing: Find Your Authentic Voice & Reveal a Clear Vision for Your Future, begins Thursday, October 22. For more details, click here.

Robert Moss' Story
Dream shaman, and a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

EXCERPT: I was busy, as usual, traveling and teaching a lot around the world, and my book deadline was two weeks away. Although I write fast, two weeks isn't very long to write a book when you actually haven't knuckled down and done any of it as a draft up to that point. A friend of mind in Europe sent me a message and said, "How's the book coming along?" I said, "Well, I don't really know what to say. The deadline's in two weeks. It's all with me in a sense, but I haven't put anything really on paper, yet." She said, "Okay. Maybe this dream will help you, Robert. I want to give you a dream. It's a dream about you."

To watch the video and read the transcript of Robert’s fascinating 4-minute story, click here.

Sandra Ingerman's Story
Shamanism teacher, and a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

EXCERPT: And so my grandfather came to me in a dream, and it was a really interesting dream. We were in a waiting room, it was dirty, the furniture was all torn. And we were sitting on a couch together and he said to me, "You have to let me go." And I said, "Grandpa, I can't let you go; I can never let you go." And he said, "You have to let me go. Please let me go." And so I finally agreed to let him go, but then I didn't understand what the dream was about. So I called my brother, and my brother said…

The Stronger the Imagination, the Less Imaginary the Results
By Robert Moss, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

The greatest crisis of our lives is a crisis of imagination. We come to a dead stop because there is a barrier in front of us and we can’t imagine a way to get around or over it. Our work space feels like it is walled with cement blocks that are closing in tighter every day, but we can’t imagine where we would go if we quit. We look in the mirror, when we dare, and see the age lines, the skin blemishes, maybe the thinning hair, not the beauty that we may carry inside.

The Nocturnal Meditations
By Dr. Andrew Holecek, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

The nocturnal meditations are slowly gaining traction in the West, but remain largely unknown. With the help of modern science, these ancient practices have the potential to revolutionize education, creating a distinctive form of “night school.” The unique curriculum begins with lucid dreaming, which is when you realize that you’re dreaming while still remaining in the dream. Dreams Can Bring Helpful Dream Voices and Useful Health Information
By Jane Carleton, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

“You have cancer.” I woke from sleep with a voice calmly telling me this. I’ve heard this voice before, giving me good information. Once, it insistently told me to “Go to ancestry.com." And because I followed that advice, I met the beloved brother and family I never knew, which changed my life and healed me deeply. To read more, click here.

How 5 Near-Death Experiences Led to the Launch of Spiritual Awakenings International
By Yvonne Kason MD, MEd, CCFP, FCFP, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

By some twist of fate, I have been blessed with five near-death experiences (NDEs) over the course of my life. Each of my NDEs had powerful aftereffects on me, and altered the course of my life both as a medical doctor and as a spiritual seeker. Ultimately, they led me to become the co-founder and president of Spiritual Awakenings international, a new global network dedicated to raising awareness about NDEs and other Spiritually Transformative Experiences. The Apeman Cometh: Dreaming of the Apocalypse
By Linda H. Mastrangelo, LMFT, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

Heal Your Mind and Body in a Lucid Dream
By Dr. Clare R. Johnson, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

Is it really possible to heal your body in a lucid dream? Lucid dreaming has strong parallels with hypnotherapy. Both of them work with unconscious imagery; both can involve changing this imagery to reflect a healthier body image and mindset; both unwrap the metaphoric and symbolic language of dreams and recover repressed memories. In both, the underlying reason for our fears and obsessions can be recognised and understood, and in many cases this simple recognition can be cathartic and lead to positive, lasting change. Finding Our Mythic Ground
By Sharon Blackie, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

We think we make them up, the myths, stories and dreams which so richly define the human imagination. But what if they have an existence that’s independent of us? What if they come to us as psychopomps – a beautiful old word of Greek origins which means ‘soul guide’? How then do we learn to listen to them, to see them, and work with them? I Had a Dream — of Covid-19 — What Does it Mean
By Paul Levy, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

I find myself imagining: what if a client came into my office and shared the following dream: Within a matter of weeks (which in dreamtime is no time at all), their world shifted suddenly. A potentially deadly virus had gotten on the loose and was killing people, making countless others sick, creating a global pandemic. Rampant fear was quickly consuming the globe. Due to the contagiousness of the disease, people became afraid to get too close to each other. To read more, click here.

Grief Dreams: The Power of Love
By Dr. Joshua Black, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

It was 3 months after my father died. The days prior were long and joyless. That was until I had my first dream of him. The dream changed my grief in ways I still don’t fully understand. In my dream, my father was on the other side of my bedroom and he looked healthy. He actually looked healthier than he ever had before and he had a peace about him that I never witnessed in waking life. I walked up to him and said that I loved him and that I would miss him (acknowledging his death). We hugged, and then I woke up. To read more, click here.

Why Sharing Your Dreams Is So Important
By Dr. Angel Morgan, a featured speaker in the Dreamwork Summit

It's time to normalize dream sharing. When I say dream sharing, I mean learning to share dreams that were experiences during sleep, in a healthy way with our communities in waking life. This is why it's important. Dream sharing, when done in the right way, empowers individuals with sympathy, understanding, self-esteem, and a sense of community. Having an open mind to the experiences of others and co-creating a safe, non-judgmental environment are important elements for dream sharing. To read more, click here.

Capturing Dream Wisdom With the Brush Strokes of the Soul
By Susan Audrey, MA, Dreamwork Guide & Artist, and Senior Campaign Strategist and Copywriter for The Shift Network

The day my mother called to tell me that my youngest brother had died suddenly of a heart attack, I was finishing an art piece with a heart at its center — a broken heart I had sewn together with careful stitching.

That night I seeded my dreams with a plea — to know how my brother, Phil, was doing… Where was he now? Was he okay? My own heart ached, not only with the weight of loss, but with the knowledge that he was alone in his moment of passing.
