Society is desperately in need of people who are prepared to help midwife Death — to help others approach the last stages of life, and the journey into life beyond life, with courage and grace.
The role of the psychopomp is not confined to helping the living travel the roads beyond Death. It involves helping spirits of the deceased find their ways.
This extraordinary training marries the powerful and original techniques of Active Dreaming — Robert Moss’ original synthesis of dreamwork and shamanism — with a vitally important purpose…
… helping both the living and the departed navigate Death, dying, and the journey between worlds.
Through Active Dreaming, you’ll learn to work consciously with your dreams as doorways to realities beyond the physical world — using dream journeys, conscious encounters, and shamanic techniques to explore the afterlife, communicate with the departed, and develop your own firsthand knowledge of what lies beyond.
It will require you to be brave enough to explore a close encounter with your own Death, and to travel the roads of the afterlife and develop a working geography of the many options available after physical Death.
What happens after Death is far too important for us to rely on hand-me-down beliefs and second-hand accounts. We need firsthand knowledge.
We get that by visiting places where the dead are alive, and by receiving visitations from those who have departed this world. Both ways of knowing are opened, easily and naturally, in dreams.
The immense body of data on near-Death experiences (NDEs) is scientific evidence of the survival of consciousness after the physical body has closed down. Awareness is not confined to the body and brain, and therefore is able to survive Death.
It is never too early or too late for us to brave up to Death and discover what happens on the Other Side.
As Montaigne said, “We do not know where Death will meet us, so we must be ready to meet Death everywhere.”
When we are willing to meet Death as an ally instead of a dread, we find we have superabundant energy for life and can approach our life choices with the courage and clarity that a close encounter with Death may bring.
In this training, you will learn how to confirm for yourself, and help others to know that:
This training is for you if you feel called to explore dreaming, Death, and the afterlife through direct experience — whether you want to deepen your own relationship with the departed, prepare yourself more consciously for the journey beyond this life, or develop the capacity to guide and support others.
You don’t need previous experience with Active Dreaming, shamanic journeying, or psychopomp work. Robert will guide you step by step as you develop practices for conscious dream travel, spirit communication, navigating the Otherworld, and approaching Death with greater courage and grace.

You’ll:
Active Dreaming & Spirit Communication Practices
Otherworld & Afterlife Journeying Practices
Psychopomp & Death Midwifery Practices
Together, these practices will help you develop your own experiential relationship with dreaming, Death, and the Other Side — so you can approach the great journey with greater courage, assist the departed when called, support others facing Death, and live more fully in the larger reality that surrounds this life.

Robert Moss is the creator of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of modern dreamwork and shamanism. He survived three near-death experiences as a child, which provided him with early access to other realms. He leads popular seminars all over the world, including a 3-year training for teachers of Active Dreaming. A former lecturer in ancient history at the Australian National University, he’s a bestselling author, poet, journalist, and independent scholar.
Robert has written more than a dozen books on dreaming, shamanism, and imagination, including Conscious Dreaming… Dreaming the Soul Back Home… Sidewalk Oracles: Playing With Signs, Symbols, and Synchronicity in Everyday Life… and his spiritual memoir, The Boy Who Died and Came Back.
His latest book, Growing Big Dreams: Manifesting Your Heart’s Desires Through 12 Secrets of the Imagination, is a passionate and practical call to step through the gates of dreams and imagination to survive hard times. He writes about how to travel without leaving home, and grow the vision of a more abundant life so rich and strong that it yearns to take root in the world.
This program will feature LIVE teachings, interactive sessions, experiential journeys, shamanic practices, and Q&A with Robert. Across 18 modules, you’ll move from learning the foundational practices of Active Dreaming to exploring the Other Side for yourself, communicating with the departed, assisting souls who may need help, and ultimately developing the skills to help others approach Death with greater courage and grace.
The program begins by establishing the foundations for safe, conscious exploration beyond the boundaries of ordinary reality. You’ll create a personal place of sanctuary and vision, learn Robert’s core techniques of Active Dreaming, work with lucid and liminal states, and call in guidance, blessing, and protection as you begin journeying between worlds.
From there, your training unfolds through several interconnected stages:
1: Communicating With the Departed
Explore why the dead come calling, learn to discern different kinds of encounters, reenter dreams to continue conversations, and discover opportunities for healing, forgiveness, guidance, and co-creation across the apparent barrier of Death
2: Exploring the Otherworld
Draw from ancient traditions, firsthand accounts, and maps of the afterlife as you journey across waters, take soul flight, enter the astral realm of the Moon, pass through Dante’s Gate, and explore what may await during the first transitions after Death
3: Becoming a Psychopomp
Learn how to recognize when departed souls may be lost, confused, burdened by unfinished business, or unable to move on — and explore compassionate ways to call in guidance, assist their imaginations, facilitate forgiveness and farewell, and help them find their way
4: Preparing Yourself and Others for the Journey
Face Death on its own ground and discover how making Death an ally can bring greater courage and purpose to the life you’re living now, while learning to use Active Dreaming to help others approach Death with courage and grace
5: Exploring the Larger Journey of the Soul
Travel into the space between lives, reconnect with your soul family, explore the choices that may precede incarnation, and rise toward the perspective of the Higher Self or Oversoul to gain a more spacious view of your life across time and worlds
Throughout the training, you won’t simply study ideas about Death and the afterlife — you’ll be invited to explore these realms through direct experience. With Robert’s guidance and the aid of practices, including dream reentry, lucid dreaming, shamanic drumming, meditation, ritual, and conscious journeying, you’ll develop your own maps and relationships with the worlds beyond the physical.
By the end of this journey, you’ll have a richer set of practices for approaching Death, dreaming, and the Other Side with courage and curiosity — while cultivating your capacity to communicate across worlds, assist the departed, support others facing Death, and live this life with a deeper awareness of the larger reality in which it unfolds.

You'll begin by exploring where you must go for reliable evidence of life after Death. You'll survey the rich world literature of ecstatic journeys and near-Death experiences and discover that the human belief that consciousness survives the body – and the architecture of heavens and hells and other collective situations in the afterlife – is founded on shamanic experience and personal dreams, in which the departed come calling or the dreamer travels beyond the body.
Shamans are the original scientists of the afterlife, the once and future masters of this field. Real shamans have died and come back. They have firsthand knowledge of what lies beyond the gates of Death and can return intentionally through those gates to communicate with the spirits, to guide and relocate souls. However, the Amazonian people, the Kagwahiv, say, "anyone who dreams is a little bit shaman."
In this session, you'll:

The easiest way to become a lucid dreamer is to start out conscious and stay that way as the action unfolds. The liminal space between sleep and awake is prime time for contact with spirits of the departed and spiritual guides. A remembered dream or personal image can become an ideal portal for a lucid dream adventure.
Robert will show you how to use a dream as a doorway through which you can travel — in shamanic lucid dreaming — into a deeper space where lost souls may be found and relocated, on either side of Death. You'll discover how to work consciously in these in-between states to deepen spirit communication and expand your capacity for lucid dream travel.
In this session, you'll:

"The dimension that separates the living from the dead is exactly as wide as the edge of a maple leaf," said Handsome Lake, the Seneca prophet.
Robert teaches that we have entirely natural communication with the departed in our dreams. The departed may appear because they haven't really left, because they come visiting, or because in dreaming we enter their realms.
These encounters can offer important opportunities for healing, closure, forgiveness, and guidance. You'll learn to discern the nature of these encounters and discover how dreams can become portals for further communication with the departed.
In this session, you'll:

If you dream of someone who is deceased, you may be able to reenter the dream and continue the conversation. If your departed are near or have come to visit, you can make a space for them in your life, sit down with a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and talk. There may be things they need you to do for them, or things you'd like them to do for you, opening countless opportunities for healing and co-creation.
Robert has experienced this himself, including when the dead poet W. B. Yeats — or a guide wearing his mask — became his guide to the Other Side while he was writing The Dreamer's Book of the Dead. You'll discover how healing and forgiveness may remain available across the barrier of Death while learning to discern which level of the departed you're dealing with.
In this session, you'll:

Paleopsychology is the ancient understanding of soul and spirit, and Robert offers a crash course informed by his personal dialogues with master teachers speaking from outside time. At its core is the understanding that soul journeying, or dream travel, is a key to the spirit world and knowledge of ultimate reality.
You'll explore the ancient view that the soul can make excursions outside the body in dreams and visions and that people may have more than one soul. Robert will help you distinguish the vital soul, the "free soul" associated with the dreambody, and the enduring spirit whose home is on the higher planes. You'll discover why the heart of spiritual practice is learning to shift consciousness at will and step in and out of the Otherworld.
In this session, you'll:

The great Victorian ghost hunters, including William James, journalist W. T. Stead, and the founders of the Society for Psychical Research, were committed to proving the survival of consciousness after physical Death. They studied "phantasms of the living" as well as spirits of the dead, assembling a treasury of data for those seeking solid evidence that the soul isn't confined to the body.
Members of this scholarly fraternity promised each other that when they died, they would report back from the Other Side with firsthand accounts of conditions there. They delivered through channeled books that offer illuminating accounts of afterlife transitions and higher levels of awareness. Robert will guide you through these reports and what they may reveal about mediumship, dreaming, and the continuing journey of consciousness after Death.
In this session, you'll:

You're invited to journey from your own Tree of Vision to a place of sanctuary, healing, and initiation into the mysteries of Death and rebirth. You'll enter a tomb that is also a womb, opening yourself to deep healing and soul remembering in the embrace of Ancient Mother.
Robert will guide you in opening a personal gate to Ancient Mother while connecting or reconnecting with animal guardians, including beloved animals who have shared your home life. You'll discover portals to ancestors of other times and deepen your relationships with helping spirits in animal form. Through these encounters, you can grow a personal place of sanctuary, vision, and rendezvous with spirits of the Earth and the ancestors.
In this session, you'll:

Across cultures, a crossing by water is a favorite image for destination travel to the afterlife in many world traditions. Pharaoh travels in the Boat of Ra, ancient Greeks pay the boatman to cross the River Styx, and a Byzantine poem celebrates a saint "sailing for a little while" before coming to anchor in "the great harbor of heaven." Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar," written under the shadow of his own Death, beautifully describes the soul casting off for another world, while South Pacific island peoples instruct the dying to follow a pattern of islands to a happy place.
Robert will introduce you to these and other traditions of the soul's journey across the waters and Celtic Imrama, tales of voyages to the Otherworld. You'll draw inspiration from these ancient maps as you journey across the waters yourself and begin making new maps of the Other Side.
In this session, you'll:

Taking flight to heaven is a preferred option for shamans and initiates in many traditions. In ancient India, the soul traveler mounts "the steed of the wind," while a Tibetan master today says that advanced dreamers can earn an upgrade on their flights to the Pure Lands.
Robert will introduce you to several traditions of soul flight to the afterlife, from the Egyptian spell for rising as a bird to Daoist traditions of crane riders. You'll also explore maps of the Otherworld, including Sri Yukteswar's astral atlas, presented to his disciple Paramahamsa Yogananda when he visited after his Death. You'll then make a shamanic journey to a very special airport in the imaginal realm that can become your personal base for destination travel to other worlds and rehearsal for the afterDeath journey.
In this session, you'll:

Dante's Divine Comedy is a great mythic tour of the afterlife from the heart of Western literature. Freeing key passages from the medieval history of theology while still being stirred by the poetry, Robert will guide you in following the journey of the soul, aided by dreams and an ancestral guide, through the gate of Purgatory and toward an encounter with the beloved of the soul.
Like Dante, you'll climb three great steps to the angelic gatekeeper, facing yourself as you truly are, looking into the dark side of yourself and your soul history, and seeking the sacrifice you'll make for your spiritual quest. You only gain admission when you knock on your heart. From there, you'll be invited to scale the soul mountain to meet the Soul of your Soul as she chooses to appear to you.
In this session, you'll:

You'll be challenged to reach into the place of your deepest fears, face Death on its own ground, and revalue your life and its purpose from this perspective. When you "brave up" enough to confront your personal Death and receive its teaching.
Robert teaches that you can forge an alliance that becomes a source of power and healing in every aspect of life. A close encounter with Death can bring courage, which Rollo May identified in The Courage to Create as the heart of the creative endeavor. It can encourage you to go beyond the surface vicissitudes of daily life and bring keen awareness of a larger reality. By honoring Death as an ally, you'll have the opportunity to reconsider how you're living now and what you may need to change to move forward without regrets.
In this session, you'll:

The deceased may need help and guidance from us because they have unfinished business, are lost or confused, are crippled by guilt, or are unable to detach from old environments and addictions. Many dead people may hang around the living because they don't know they're dead. In such cases, as Yeats observed, the living may be able to "assist the imaginations of the dead."
Robert will explore how you may be called on to provide or arrange rehab and escort services for the departed, while developing rituals to separate and safely contain heavy energy that has remained with the living in ways that are unhealthy for all involved. You'll discover compassionate ways to help the deceased settle unfinished business, find guidance, and move toward forgiveness or release.
In this session, you'll:

For the ancients, the astral realm of the Moon is where spirits take on subtle bodies before entering their mothers' bodies in the physical world. It's also a space to which spirits ascend after cleansing and preparation, where they may reside for a long time, watching over the Earth, entertaining Earth travelers, and producing dreams to send to those on the lower plane.
Robert explains that it's in this realm that the astral body is left behind when a soul ascends to higher levels. Interesting deities and angelic beings, both male and female, have been awarded patronage of what happens in the realm of Luna. You'll explore this mysterious realm for yourself, discovering places and beings you may return to on future journeys.
In this session, you'll:

You'll make a careful exploration of the first transitions on the Other Side, as experienced by many who make the crossing. Robert will guide you in following the trail of previous travelers while remaining open to fresh experiences and new dreams of possibility.
You'll consider maps for afterlife transitions from several world traditions, along with plausible channeled accounts from residents, soul travelers, and subjects of hypnotic regression. Step by step, you'll explore what may unfold after crossing, from meeting gatekeepers and welcoming committees to entering places of rest and reflection. Through these journeys, you'll deepen your understanding of the early stages of the afterlife and the possibilities they may hold.
In this session, you'll:

There is a people in the South Pacific who maintain that there are as many afterlife locales as there are human imaginations. This may be entirely correct, yet because many are lacking in imagination, they may settle in collective belief territories or confine themselves to very limited environments.
Robert will help you explore how imagination, memory, and desire become the architects and building contractors in the transition zones that one of his guides calls "Memorydream." You'll tour some of the possibilities of life on the Other Side, from schools and relationships to communications centers where the departed seek to contact the living. You'll also explore the Plane of Recollection, where you may see and remember your larger soul history and connections with dramas being played out in many times and many worlds.
In this session, you'll:

You can apply the techniques of Active Dreaming to help others approach Death with courage and grace and enjoy the years they have left on this side more richly. Simply by encouraging others to remember their dreams, you can help prepare them for the big journey beyond this life, since dreams take us beyond the body into other dimensions.
Robert will help you explore how to communicate on a soul level with people who are living with Alzheimer's and dementia, and even with coma patients. You'll discover ways to help others connect with spiritual guidance and recognize how, in dreams, they may already be at home in worlds beyond the world. Through this work, you can help others find a personal gateway and receive a map for the journey to life beyond life.
In this session, you'll:

The space we enter after Death and the space we inhabit before birth are closely related. Robert teaches that we come from the dream world into the physical world at the moment of birth, yet few of us arrive with clear memories of where we were before.
Those who do remember may have to withstand not only the trauma of the birth canal but also the amnesiac influences of most of those around them. Through conscious journeying, you'll explore the space between lives and reconnect with relationships, assignments, and experiences that may extend across space and time. You'll have opportunities to remember more of your larger soul story and harvest guidance for the life you're living now.
In this session, you'll:

Having journeyed to the astral realm of Luna and revisited a place where you chose your present life experience, you're ready to rise to a more spacious view of your soul's place in the multiverse. You can travel into the life experiences of personalities in other time periods — past, future, or parallel — who are part of your soul family.
Robert teaches that the choices each of you makes can impact the others, since in the larger scheme of things, your lives are being lived simultaneously. You may find yourself able to slip in and out of these other life experiences and rise to the perspective of a Higher Self that can see the secret logic of events and change the patterns. You may discover that you've been doing some of this in your dreams for a very long time, even if you were completely unconscious of it until now.
In this session, you'll:

Dream diviners guided emperors in Japan, but dreams were accessible to all as a field of interaction with spirits and a way to see the future. Erin Kalashnikova, a teacher of Active Dreaming and author of a new book on spiritual traditions and esoteric practice in Japan, describes methods of dream diagnosis, dream incubation, spirit communication and conscious dreaming between sleep and awake. She introduces us to Onmyōdō, a traditional Japanese system of divination, cosmology and spiritual protection concerned with the movement of unseen forces through time and place. She talks with Robert about how dreams provide soul guidance through life and death, and specific Japanese practices including creating spirit tablets for an aspect of the death and producing special poems to help the dying on their journeys..

In learning to come and go from the dream state at will and to navigate with full awareness inside it, lucid dreamers today have much in common with ancient and indigenous dream shamans, with some important differences. Indigenous cultures recognize that the dream self travels to real worlds beyond the physical and interacts with real beings, including the departed, other dreamers and persons-other-than-human. Ryan Hurd, a leading lucid dream researcher, discusses with Robert, who has married shamanism to modern dreamwork, how we can draw from both approaches to empower our everyday lives while gaining greater access to higher worlds.

Soul loss is the shaman''s diagnosis of the source of many of our existential complaints. We suffer trauma, the world turns cold and cruel, we give up on our dreams and part of us goes away. Sandra Ingerman, one of the world's most respected shamanic teachers in the world, has been helping us to heal soul loss since she published her pioneer book Soul Retrieval in 1990. Sandra and Robert have been friends for nearly as long. In this soul-searching conversation, they talk about how to bring more soul into life, recall the soul's purpose, connect with spirit helpers, and journey to other worlds, including life beyond death,
