One of the great paradoxes of personal growth is that we can know ourselves deeply and still struggle to change.
We can understand where our patterns came from. We can meditate, pray, journal, go to therapy, and experience moments of genuine awakening — and still discover places within us that remain untouched.
Psychologist and spiritual leader Philip Carr-Gomm teaches that this isn’t necessarily a failure of either psychology or spirituality.
It may be what happens when we ask either path to do the work of both.
Spirituality without psychology can lift us above our wounds without truly healing them. Psychology without spirituality can help us understand our wounds without connecting us to the deeper meaning, purpose, and wholeness we seek.
Weaving the two together can offer you a rich legacy of spiritual wisdom matched with the rigor of modern psychology, providing you with grounded, practical tools for real growth and a deeper sense of meaning and connection.
You’ll understand yourself more fully, make sense of your pain instead of just carrying it, and start living from a calmer, more connected version of yourself.
You’re invited to explore all this and more in this live 18-week training.
Philip has spent 40 years teaching at the intersection of psychology and spirituality. He’s known for his long-running work in Druid spiritual practice and, more recently, Psychosynthesis.
Philip doesn't just teach information — he designs experiences built to create lasting change, not just deliver content.
He’s guided students to hold both their brokenness and their wholeness at the same time, relating to their pain without being defined by it. They’ve discovered that life's hardest moments — illness, divorce, loss — can become doorways to transformation, not just wounds to carry.
Joining him across the 18 weeks are three guest teachers, each leading their own session: Dr. Steve Taylor, a psychology professor and leading voice on the psychology of awakening; Dr. Rosalind Watts, a pioneer in psychedelic-assisted therapy research; and Dr. Gayatri Anderson, a transpersonal psychologist steeped in Eastern traditions, who joins Philip across several sessions.
This training is for you if you feel called to bring together the two great forces that shape a meaningful life — psychological understanding and spiritual wisdom — so you can understand yourself more deeply, navigate life with greater wholeness and discernment, and support meaningful transformation in others.
Instead of treating psychology and spirituality as separate paths, this training weaves them into an integrated approach to healing, growth, and awakening — giving you both a deeper understanding of human transformation and practical ways to foster it.
Whether it's anxiety that never quite settles, a sense of emptiness, old wounds and conditioning from childhood that keep replaying in your relationships, or a relentless inner critic that’s convinced you that your inner work will never be enough — this training is designed to help you move through it.
You’ll develop a rich toolkit of psychological and spiritual practices, along with the discernment and confidence to know when and how to use them — whether you’re deepening your own development or bringing greater depth and dimension to your work as a:

Across 18 weeks, you’ll move beyond simply learning about psychology and spirituality to experiencing practical frameworks, assessments, contemplative practices, and psychological tools you can use for your own growth — and, where appropriate, in your work with others.
You’ll learn how to:
Throughout the training, you’ll experience practical assessments, frameworks, and practices you can return to again and again — for your own growth and, where appropriate, in your work with others — including:

Philip Carr-Gomm combines inspiration from the worlds of psychology and spirituality to help us access our own wellsprings of happiness, creativity, and meaning. Rooted in the nature spirituality of Druidry, Philip also draws on his training in psychology, psychosynthesis psychotherapy, and sophrology. He is founder of the Sophrology Institute.
Philip helps participants in his talks and workshops transform their lives through the imaginative use of conversation, plant and animal oracles, music and poetry, meditation, and ritual. He has authored or co-authored 20 books, including The Druid Animal Oracle and The Druidcraft Tarot. He has worked in the field of psychedelic therapy with the Synthesis Institute and the ACER Integration Program.
This program will feature LIVE teachings, interactive sessions, experiential practices, and Q&A with Philip.
Each of the five progressive movements in this training will focus on a different dimension of the integration between spiritual wisdom and psychological understanding — your ways of knowing, your map of the Self, the spiritual technologies you can call on, what blocks your clarity, and how to turn all of it into purpose and service.
The program begins with a foundational first module designed to orient you to Philip's core methodology, the sacred container of the learning community, and the guiding principles — drawn from the Sufi, Quaker, and New England Transcendentalist traditions — that will anchor your journey through the course. This module will ensure you're grounded in a shared sense of purpose and intention, and ready to engage with the deeper material that follows.
To support a deep and embodied learning experience, the training then moves through five progressive movements:
Unit 1: Awakening, and Ways of Knowing (Modules 2–4) With Dr. Steve Taylor and Dr. Gayatri Anderson, explore what awakening actually means, trace the historical roots of modern psychology, and expand your understanding of consciousness itself — including ESP and intuitive knowing.
Unit 2: Mapping the Self (Modules 5–9) Build a working map of your soul, personality, sub-personalities, ancestry, energetic anatomy, and typology — layering psychological models with esoteric ones to construct a fuller picture of who you are.
Unit 3: Spiritual Technologies & Practices (Modules 10–13) With Dr. Rosalind Watts and Dr. Gayatri Anderson, learn and experience four distinct paths for growth — spiritually-informed psychotherapy, meditation matched to your own temperament, psychedelic integration, and the discernment needed to evaluate any teacher or group you encounter.
Unit 4: Clearing the Matrix (Modules 14–15) Identify the psychological patterns — personal and collective — that distort perception, and learn to work with both your own wounding and the wider karma of groups, nations, and ancestral lineages.
Unit 5: Purpose, Service, and Integration (Modules 16–18) Explore the paths of service, devotion, and wisdom; clarify your purpose using the concept of Ikigai; and complete the course with a personal, visual integration of everything you've learned.
This progressive format allows you to build understanding step by step — layering psychological insight with spiritual practice — so that by the end of the course you can hold both perspectives at once, with depth, precision, and compassion.
Every two-hour session follows its own rhythm to support embodied learning: a short breakout-room connection exercise to open, a focused teaching, a guided experiential practice, and small-group discussion to integrate what surfaced — before the group comes back together to share.
The final module is shaped by everything the group has built together — a chance to revisit the intentions you set in Module 1, celebrate what's shifted, and create a lasting personal map of your transformation. You'll leave not just with knowledge, but with the community, tools, and confidence to carry it forward into your own life and, if you choose, into your work with others.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of beautifully illustrated infographics and self-assessment tools — practical resources integrating psychology, neuroscience, contemplative practice and timeless wisdom.

Philip will begin by building the container for your journey with you – tracing its limits and defining its aspirations.
He'll bring you into a sacred learning community and show you how individual and group interaction has been used by spiritual groups such as the Sufis, the Quakers and the New England Transcendentalists, and by contemporary approaches and a psychotherapeutic understanding, to deepen your sense of presence, connection and meaning.
Philip will also help you develop your skills and capacity for deep listening and the use of focussing and creative conversation, to strengthen your sense of purpose and bring clarity to your intentions.
In this module, you'll:

Philip, together with special guest Dr. Steve Taylor, will guide you through an exploration of the goals of Spiritual Psychology: Awakening, Individuation, Self-Actualization, Realization, Illumination, or simply developing the skills to lead a good life.
Crises such as illness, accidents or bereavement can lead to awakening, just as spiritual practice can, and Steve will show you what it means to awaken to the spiritual and psychological journey of the Self, how it actually occurs, and how the process can be understood and fostered.
In this module, you'll:

Philip will begin by tracing the remarkable evolution of our attempts to understand the human being with you.
Starting with the birth of the scientific study of psychology and moving through the development of psychoanalysis, Psychosynthesis, positive psychology, transpersonal psychology, and esoteric psychology, he'll ask you: what does each tradition contribute, and where do they converge?
Philip will establish the rich intellectual and spiritual lineage that underpins this entire journey, connecting the goals of spiritual psychology with those of religion, philosophy, and spirituality.
In this module, you'll:

Philip, together with Dr. Gayatri Anderson, will explore what tools you can use to pursue your quest.
Gayatri will walk you through the different ways of knowing at your disposal: rational and imaginal, left-brain and right-brain. She'll introduce you to the Jain philosophy of Anekant and to Ian McGilchrist's work.
A spiritual psychology allows you to consider ESP faculties such as telepathy and precognition as valid sources of information, and Philip and Gayatri will survey Ken Wilber's Integral theory and the field of parapsychology, taking you into the nature of consciousness, its different levels, and their relationship with brainwaves.
In this module, you'll:

Philip will survey the way the human psyche has been understood by different schools of psychology and esotericism, integrating these perspectives with the Psychosynthesis model to help you construct a working map of your soul, heart and mind.
He'll explore the relationship between your soul and your personality with you, and guide you through exercises to strengthen the bridge between them.
Philip will show you the explanatory power of the model, its division of your unconscious into three levels, and its explanations of mental distress and spiritual experience.
He'll explore the potential you possess for psychological integration and healing with you, using a bio-psycho-social-eco-spiritual framework, and have you practice two techniques from Psychosynthesis — the ability to disidentify from thoughts and feelings to connect with your source — and the technique known as bifocal vision, which is useful in every kind of relationship, including coaching, counselling and psychotherapy.
In this module, you'll:

You will discover the cast of characters that lives within you – inner voices, recurring patterns, conflicting drives — parts as they are known in Internal Family Systems theory.
Philip will introduce you to the theory and practice of working with these sub-personalities, as they are called in Psychosynthesis, giving you tools to identify, dialogue with, and integrate the many parts of yourself into a more harmonious whole.
You’ll explore the ways in which different schools of psychology and spiritual teachers have understood this phenomenon with you, and learn how to identify your cast of characters to bring more harmony and integration into your life.
You'll learn exercises that you can share with others to bring more understanding, ease conflict and encourage healing — within yourself and between those around you.In this module, you'll:

Philip, together with Dr. Gayatri Anderson, will explore past-life influences, and the profound impact of the ancestral line, with you.
Drawing on both psychological and esoteric frameworks, Gayatri will examine karma with you — not as punishment, but as the intelligent unfolding of the soul's learning across time.
Philip will show you how the range of influences that shape your experience and development can be understood through the bio-psycho-social-eco-spiritual framework covered in Module 5, and here he and Gayatri will use the spiritual lens in that framework to help you consider the impact that non-human or discarnate beings might have upon you, such as guides, angels, entities, nature spirits, and loved ones who have passed away.
In this module, you'll:

Dr. Gayatri Anderson, alongside Philip, will explore how nervous system regulation, esoteric anatomy with its concepts of the koshas, the subtle body, and the chakra system — illuminated by an understanding of Neuroscience and a trauma-informed approach — can illuminate your understanding of your own journey and of the human psyche.
They'll guide you through exercises for balance and healing, and show you how an understanding of neuroscience can help your self-regulation.
Gayatri will introduce you to the Yogic science of the koshas or sheaths of being — and combining this with an understanding of neuroscience, she and Philip will help you assess the alignment and balance of your own chakra and kosha systems.
In this module, you'll:

Philip will show you how philosophers since ancient times, and more recently psychologists, have tried to group people into types or categories: from the simple divisions of the humors, such as melancholic or sanguine, to the more sophisticated divisions based on astrological type or the Jungian-based MBTI (Myers-Briggs) classification.
Being careful to help you avoid type-casting yourself or others, Philip will explore what spiritual psychology can offer: a consideration of both scientifically-based classifications and those drawn from spiritual teachings.
He'll take you through a survey of the major typological systems — the esoteric psychology of the Seven Rays, the Enneagram, the twelve astrological signs, and the sixteen Jungian-derived personality types — and explore what each reveals about your nature.
In this module, you'll:

Can the consulting room be a sacred space?
Philip will show you how psychotherapy — when practiced with spiritual awareness — can become a powerful vehicle for liberation.
He'll take you through the therapeutic journey and help you consider how psychological healing and spiritual awakening are not separate endeavors.
He'll trace the golden thread of the spiritual perspective in psychotherapy through its development, from the insights of William James to current-day thinkers, and have you experience how a psychotherapeutic intervention coming from this perspective can be of value to you in your own journey.
In this module, you'll:

Philip will show you why meditation is the cornerstone of every authentic spiritual tradition.
He'll explore the mechanisms and effects of meditation with you from the spiritual, psychological, and neuroscientific perspectives, and survey the major contemplative approaches — from mindfulness to mantra, from visualization to inquiry — showing you how each cultivates the inner conditions necessary for genuine awakening.
Philip will offer you practical guidance to help you choose the meditation practice most suited to your typology, and he'll examine the little-known negative effects of meditation, alongside the indicators that determine whether meditation could be contraindicated for you.
He'll guide you through a sophrology technique developed by a neuropsychiatrist that can lead you into the meditative state, and show you how an understanding of samskaras can help you in developing your meditation practice.
In this module, you'll:

Guest faculty Dr. Rosalind Watts will explore with you how the renaissance of psychedelic research has reopened ancient questions about consciousness, healing, and the sacred.
Rosalind will walk you through the evidence, the risks, and the genuine potential of plant medicines and psychedelic-assisted therapy as catalysts for psychological and spiritual transformation – held within a framework of careful preparation and integration.
Philip and Rosalind will explore the range of experiences psychedelics can initiate with you, and the ways in which they can be used to address psychological distress, the urge to experience mystical states, and to enhance creativity.
They'll also explore the problems the psychedelic renaissance has caused, and the very real dangers posed by their misuse. Dr. Watts will share with you her integration model — ACER (Accept, Connect, Embody, Restore) — which can be applied not only to psychedelic integration, but to any journey of healing and integration.
In this module, you'll:

Philip, together with Dr. Gayatri Anderson, will explore the more difficult aspects of the spiritual journey with you — how can you determine whether a spiritual teacher or guru is genuine, and how can you avoid the toxic influences of a cult?
They'll show you what happens when spiritual practice is used to avoid, rather than engage with, the difficult work of psychological growth, examining the phenomenon of spiritual bypassing with compassion and rigor, and helping you look at the yearning that exists at the heart of spiritual bypassing: moving past pejorative judgement to identify the underlying desire being expressed for union with the divine.
Gayatri and Philip will explore how genuine liberation requires you to embrace, not transcend, your full humanity, and how you can cultivate spiritual discernment, separating what is valuable from that which can be misleading.
In this module, you'll:

Philip will show you the invisible matrix of psychological patterns, which we are all held within, that distort our perception of reality.
He'll map the key forces at work for you: the effects of wounding and trauma, projection and transference, the conformity effect, the halo effect, and confirmation bias. Philip will also explore the deep psychology of unmet needs and their relationship to personal karma with you — the accumulated patterns of action and reaction that you carry from your past.
Philip will show you how your sub-personalities can introduce biases and distortions that create unhelpful identifications and attachments, and help you develop practical skills for identifying, honoring, and ultimately liberating yourself from these binding forces.
In this module, you'll:

Dr. Gayatri Anderson, alongside Philip, will show you how your individual psychology is inseparable from the collective fields in which you are embedded. They will examine the karma of groups, nations, and ancestral lineages with you — how historical trauma, collective shadow, and shared mythology shape individual experience, and will explore what it means to participate consciously in the healing of collective wounds with you.
Drawing on the ancient Vedic teaching of the Yugas – the great cycles of cosmic time — they will place your individual and collective journey within the vast arc of humanity's evolution.
What is the karma of our species at this pivotal moment in history? And what is your role, as an awakening soul, in what the Buddhist teacher Joanna Macy has termed the Great Turning that is now underway? Philip and Gayatri will guide you through this inquiry.
In this module, you'll:

Liberation and enlightenment are often presented as the highest goals of personal and spiritual development. But are they the culmination of the journey, or the beginning of a new one?
Philip will explore this question with you through three of the great impulses that draw people towards awakening: the path of selfless service (karma yoga), the path of love and devotion (bhakti yoga), and the path of wisdom and insight (jnana yoga).
By exploring the distinctive appeal of these paths with you, together with other possible directions, Philip will deepen your understanding of purpose and meaning, and help you consider what it truly means to live in service to something greater than yourself.
In this module, you'll:

Drawing on contemporary positive psychology and motivational research, Philip will offer you practical tools for discovering and living your deepest purpose.
While acknowledging your need for allowing Unknowing and the Mystery, he'll explore the relationship between passion and meaning with you, examining what truly motivates human beings at the deepest level, and help you develop a personal vision for a life of intentional contribution.
All the while, Philip will help you recognize the shadow of this concept — the way in which psychological growth and spiritual development can be used as yet one more way to avoid opening to contentment and presence.
In this module, you'll:

In this final meeting, Philip will celebrate together with you and the community — honoring both your achievements and your commitments and choices for the future.
He'll explore how you can continue growing and changing, and how you can experience a life of joy, happiness, and engagement. Philip will review the intentions you set at the start of your journey together, and help you consider how you can maintain the momentum, transformations and learning you have experienced during the course.
He'll guide you through an exercise that helps you integrate all that you have learned — creating a visual symbol or map of the terrain you have explored together.
In this module, you'll:
When you register by 2026-10-31 11:59:00 pm , you’ll receive special bonus offerings designed to complement Philip’s transformative 18-module course — and deepen your understanding and practice even further.

To explore how neuroscience can support everyday meditators, Philip talks with Dr. Ash Ranpura, a neuroscientist and clinical neurologist with over 25 years experience in brain research, holding degrees from Yale, the Medical College of Ohio, and UCLA Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. Dr Ranpura co-authored How To Be Human: The Manual, which explores the central question: Why, despite our extraordinary evolutionary development, are human beings so often anxious, unhappy, disconnected, and overwhelmed?

Clinical psychologist Dr. Alexandra Dent presents her signature method of working with clients in psychotherapy. She uses a spiritual perspective, combined with methods drawn from EMDR, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral approaches. Dr. Dent is the author of Using Spirituality in Psychotherapy: A Heart Led Approach to Clinical Practice and Using Spirituality in EMDR Therapy: The Heart Led Approach.

Indigenous and shamanic traditions, as well as more recent spiritualist and esoteric teachings, have often spoken of the reality of spirits and entities — of the risks of possession and the need for psychic protection. The worlds of contemporary psychology and psychiatry are understandably wary of such notions. In this in-depth, 83-minute discussion, therapists Debbie Ison and Philip Carr-Gomm discuss these notions. Debbie also speaks of her healing work with clients who appear to have experienced possession by entities.

In these two video interviews, Philip explores the guru phenomenon with two gurus from the same lineage: Shakti Durga and her daughter Dr Gayatri Anderson, who will be teaching in this course. In these revealing discussions, they explore the value and the pitfalls of the guru role in the world today, and why gurus are so often perceived as problematic. Shakti is an Australian ex-barrister who is now a guru responsible for initiatives on three continents and with over 60 groups working in the fields of spiritual teaching and charitable work. Gayatri holds a master’s degree in Positive Psychology and a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology.
