Some experiences change you. Others help change the world.
Gongs may have the power to do both.
People who have been in the presence of gong baths often describe remarkable shifts. They leave feeling calmer, more present, deeply restored, and connected to something larger than themselves.
Many speak of profound peace, expanded awareness, and a lingering state of awe that stays with them long after the final note has faded.
Yet, despite these shared experiences, surprisingly little scientific research has explored why they occur or how to measure them.
After decades of guiding thousands of people through gong baths and leading groundbreaking online research during the pandemic, internationally recognized gong master and teacher Martha Collard became convinced that the future of gong practice depends not only on extraordinary experiences, but on our ability to understand and communicate them with greater confidence.
In her new 7-week live video course, Martha will guide you through weekly gong baths, while inviting you to become part of one of the first collaborative citizen-science projects exploring the measurable effects of gongs.
As you immerse yourself in Martha’s structured gong protocol, you’ll learn practical ways to observe changes in stress, wellbeing, sleep, nervous system regulation, and the remarkable state that researchers call awe. Using validated questionnaires, accessible home technology, and thoughtfully designed frameworks, you’ll gain a richer understanding of why gong meditation can be so profoundly restorative.
Whether you’re a gong practitioner, sound healer, meditation facilitator, wellness professional, or simply someone who wants to feel and understand how the sounds of gongs can elevate us into non-ordinary states, you’ll leave with practical tools, a repeatable protocol, and a clear framework you can immediately apply in your own work or personal practice.
And when someone asks, “How do you know it works?” you’ll finally have language for experiences you’ve felt, but have never been fully able to articulate.
What makes this journey so unusual is that the same gong playing that transforms you also helps transform the future of gong practice.
As you contribute your anonymous observations to this groundbreaking initiative, you’ll help build one of the first meaningful bodies of evidence exploring gong meditation… while comparing your own results with those of practitioners around the world. In doing so, you’ll help strengthen the credibility of a practice that has transformed countless lives but remains only lightly explored by modern science.
Whether your goal is to deepen your own relationship with the gong, strengthen your professional practice, or help shape the future of sound healing, this pioneering journey offers a rare opportunity to experience profound restoration while helping more people understand, trust, and benefit from the far-reaching potential of gong meditation.

In this 7-week transformational course, Martha will guide you through the skills and competencies you’ll need to become part of a pioneering citizen-science project exploring the impact of gongs, as you follow a structured gong protocol, learn to observe and communicate its effects with greater confidence, and help shape the future of this extraordinary practice..
You’ll connect with Martha and experience her teachings through livestreaming on any connected device. This connection is easy to use and will enhance the impact of Martha’s transmissions. Can’t make it live? After each class, you can stream the video and audio recordings to enjoy anytime and anywhere at your convenience.
This course will feature LIVE teachings, interactive sessions, experiential practices, and Q&A with Martha. Each session will build harmoniously upon the previous ones, so you’ll develop a complete holistic understanding of the practices, tools, and principles you’ll need to gain practical tools for strengthening your gong practice with the goal of experiencing profound peace, expanded awareness, and a lingering state of awe.

In this first module, you'll discover how your participation in citizen science can help transform intuitive sound meditation into a more respected, evidence-informed practice.
You'll explore why reliable gong research is still so limited, why experiences such as awe are difficult to define and measure, and how standardized protocols and meaningful metrics can help build stronger evidence where little currently exists.
Martha will introduce the framework and methodology that will guide your research journey throughout the next six weeks.
In this session, you'll:

You'll discover how to measure both what you experience during a gong bath and what your body reveals.
You'll explore the difference between subjective experiences and objective biomarkers, learn the strengths and limitations of each, and discover why Martha chose the research methods and home technology used throughout this project.
She'll show you how to gather meaningful data using practical tools you can access yourself.
In this session, you'll:

You'll explore how digital sound can create profound physical and physiological effects, while examining the differences between online and in-person gong experiences.
You'll discover how sound travels across digital platforms, why audio quality matters, and what you can do to optimize your home setup for both a more immersive experience and more reliable research.
Martha will explain the science behind her methodology and how to minimize digital audio loss.
In this session, you'll:

You'll learn how to translate your online research framework into physical spaces by identifying which variables can be controlled and why consistency is essential for credible results.
You'll explore how room layout, acoustics, instrument placement, participant positioning, and other environmental factors influence both the gong experience and the quality of your research.
Martha will show you how standardized protocols create replicable sound environments that strengthen the scientific credibility of your work.
In this session, you'll:

You'll explore the clinical surveys that form the foundation of this citizen science project and discover why they're considered the gold standard for measuring stress and wellbeing.
As you walk through the Perceived Stress Scale and WHO-5 Well-Being Index, you'll learn what each question measures, how these tools help evaluate the effects of gong meditation, and why they were chosen for this research.
Martha will show you how to interpret your results with greater confidence while helping build one of the most comprehensive bodies of evidence around gong meditation to date.
In this session, you'll:

You'll explore why healthy sleep is one of the clearest indicators of nervous system restoration and discover how the Sleepiness Index helps measure changes in daytime fatigue and overall sleep quality.
As you examine this clinical assessment, you'll learn why it was chosen for the study and how it helps evaluate the effects of gong meditation on rest and recovery.
Martha will show you how to interpret your results and use them to better understand your sleep patterns.
In this session, you'll:

In this final module, you'll bring together everything you've explored over the previous six weeks as the collective findings from your citizen science project are revealed.
You'll discover how your group's results compare across the WHO-5 Well-Being Index, Perceived Stress Scale, and Sleepiness Index while exploring what they may contribute to the future of sound research.
Martha will help you interpret the results, celebrate your contribution, and explore where this work can lead next.
In this closing session, you'll:

It is said the ancients could "hear" the movements of the cosmic spheres. While sound can't travel through the vacuum of space, sonification allows images from the cosmos to be experienced in a new way - by assigning sound to light and pixels. As breathtaking images from the Hubble Space Telescope come alive through sound, you'll be invited into an awe-inspiring journey through the universe that deepens your sense of wonder and connection.

Step into the rich and captivating world of overtones with Martha Collard and intuitive harpist Shelly Reef. In this illuminating dialogue, they explore how Therapy Harps, monochords, and gongs each create immersive healing experiences through their unique harmonic qualities. You'll discover how coherent chordal resonance and overtone-rich sound fields can influence emotional states, meditative awareness, and the nervous system in profoundly different yet complementary ways. You'll gain a deeper appreciation for why overtone-based instruments have such a powerful capacity to transport listeners into states of deep relaxation, inner exploration, and transformation.

Awe is a profound sense of reverence, admiration, and wonder, often inspired by something vast, beautiful, or deeply powerful - and it can leave us momentarily speechless. In this curated collection of poems and quotations, Martha explores the essence of this elusive feeling and offers inspiration to help you reconnect with wonder in your own life.

Experiencing awe is good for your health. It helps build resilience, deepen empathy, and foster a greater sense of connection to something larger than yourself. And awe isn't reserved for extraordinary moments. Through close observation, childlike wonder, curiosity, and gratitude, you can cultivate it in everyday life. In this practical guide, Martha shares simple ways to invite more awe into your daily experience.
