I have come to drag you out of yourself

By Patricia Albere

I have come to drag you out of yourself, and take you in my heart.
I have come to bring out the beauty you never knew you had
and lift you like a prayer to the sky.”
--Rumi

Often when we think of love, what comes to mind is unconditional love, acceptance, caring, sweetness, warmth, forgiveness, generosity and kindness.  Sometimes we think of melting and merging, passion, and ecstatic union.

There’s a dimension of love that is exquisitely demanding – unquenchable in its desire for all of who you are, always.  It wants your totality, all of what you could possibly give in that moment and all of who you are and then some.  It’s the kind of love that draws forth your depths into it’s arms and just as Rumi says – wants to give you in your totality to existence like a prayer – like the gift that you are.  It is the force of love that is connected to infinite potentials and possibilities.  It’s connected to creativity in its purest forms.  It wants nothing less than everything but everything as an emergence that unfolds endlessly.

This love is innately selfless – it allows me to want you out of love, not out of wanting you to be something for me.  I want you because I love you, I see you and I know that you are infinite. To be wholeheartedly loved this way is truly life changing.  I think people shy away from this dimension of love, being afraid of the unhealed aspects of our immature ‘demanding’ self that just wants what it wants like a hungry child, screaming for it’s mother.  It’s worth it to engage with and work through the unhealed wounds that could arise as you let the power of this force of love come through you.  Eventually, it is the pure force of love that allows us to want each other, to want what is possible in coming together from this place of totality.

Mostly don’t let ourselves care that much.  Sometimes (when we are not judging and placing expectations on each other) we accept each other and we are careful not to ask for more. It’s good to feel loved, accepted and supported to be as we are.  That is another dimension of love.  But it is also important to recognize and include this dimension of love and know its power.  I’ve only met a few people in my life that had this channel of love open in them towards me.   When you are truly loved from this place, you experience being wanted and called forth into your true potentials.  Through this person, you know that the universe cares that you are here and wants, in fact demands, that you give yourself to life, because it matters.

When I met Werner Erhard at age 18, he had that quality of calling forth and demanding my potential in a way that was exciting and allowed me to discover how powerful and miraculous I could be.  My lover Peter, was the only person I’ve ever known who unceasingly and relentlessly called forth the depths of beauty and love I didn’t know I could access, much less embody.  As I surrendered to this force I experienced it being so huge, so powerful, so much bigger than anything I could contain as a human being.  It felt like coming in contact with the heart of God that wants us to have everything, if we could only open ourselves to that possibility.

It activated an extraordinary kind of generosity – if I could have given him the world and the stars and everything in existence – I would have. This kind of love moves mountains and allows us to create and manifest powerfully in the world.  Interestingly, when we were together, we lived in abundance – not only experientially, but we manifested living in luxury and having lots of time and space to be together. The dynamic of this kind of love invokes an escalation of giving and receiving that attracts beauty and abundance in its wake.

In my work in the Evolutionary Collective and Mutual Awakening, this dimension of love is being cultivated and allowed.  We need to continue to learn how to love each other unconditionally and accept each other fully but we need to love this way as well.   The Heart of Existence wants everything and wants us to give ourselves over to becoming what we could never have imagined.  This kind of love doesn’t have boundaries, it doesn’t understand limitations, it loves completely and definitely wants You.
