Shift Network Update

By Lisa Bonnice, host of the Intuitive Medicine Summit

Hi. I’m Lisa Bonnice, your host for The Shift Network’s very first Intuitive Medicine Summit, a free online event from June 7-11.

Normally, these summits are broadcast shortly after they’re recorded but this one was postponed for a couple months due to scheduling delays – but I think there’s a deeper reason, on a metaphysical level.

Personally, I think the air-date was delayed so enough time would pass that I could report the powerful results I experienced after applying some of the things I learned during my interviews with more than 30 of today’s highly sought-after intuitive healers, doctors, and researchers — including Cyndi Dale, Dr. Titus Chiu, Robert Peng, Dr. Shamini Jain, and Steven Washington.

When I began preparing for this summit four months ago, I made notes about my physical condition so I could compare and contrast afterwards. When I looked back on those notes today, I was stunned by some of the health challenges I was experiencing then that no longer vex me now. In fact, I had forgotten how they used to rule my life.

I’m sleeping better and my formerly life-disrupting gut issues have subsided almost completely. Plus, I’ve lost 15 pounds and my pre-lockdown clothes fit again. I don’t have to live in pajama pants anymore!

This was a direct result of the interviews in this summit. I gathered pieces of information from each guest and put them together to solve health challenges that have plagued me for decades. For years, I’d been begging doctors to help, but none could suss out the holistic causes of these chronic issues. By listening to my intuition and following a trail of synchronistic breadcrumbs, I was led to information that helped me figure out the answers to the question, What’s wrong with me???

My wish is for you to do the same. You can register for free here.

I spent a lot of time interviewing medical intuitives like Wendie Colter, Tina Zion, Deborah King, and more, asking how they do what they do, and how we can do it too.

I also talked to medical practitioners who use their own intuition when working with patients, like Judith Orloff, MD, Norm Shealy, MD, Beth McDougall, MD, Dr. Natasha Fallahi, Cecile Carson, MD, and many others.

You’ll hear numerous “wounded healer” stories as my guests share about regaining their own wellness after tuning in to their intuitive wisdom. And, because this is a challenge many of us face, several conversations include advice about how to communicate with mainstream-minded practitioners who don’t believe in all this “woo-woo” stuff!

There’s so much more I could tell you, but I think you’d be better served to see for yourself. Register here for the FREE Intuitive Medicine Summit and check out the power-packed lineup of speakers. You’ll be glad you did.

The uplifting story in this issue’s “The Nicest Thing” section comes from summit host Lisa Bonnice, and summit speakers Cyndi Dale, Masami Covey, Judith Orloff, MD, Dr. Shamini Jain, Lavinia Plonka, David Crow, and Daisy Lee.

A Personal Invitation to the June 7-11 Intuitive Medicine Summit From Your Host, Lisa Bonnice

Hi, I’m Lisa Bonnice and I’m hosting The Shift Network’s very first Intuitive Medicine Summit, where we’ll explore ways to participate in our own healing.

Like many of you, I’ve spent decades dealing with chronic unwellness. Most of my life has been spent in a desperate search for the right medical practitioner who can, once and for all, figure out what’s “wrong with me” so I can finally feel well.

Too many of us are chronically suffering with illness. Those illnesses may... thank goodness... not be fatal, but they certainly affect our quality of life. Perhaps our doctors don’t have any good suggestions other than “take a pill...” Or maybe we have physical symptoms that can’t be easily diagnosed so no treatment — or worse, the wrong treatment — is offered. We’re left to wonder, Who can help me, because I can’t go on like this.

The Nicest Thing

In this special video series, prominent authors, thought leaders, and others answer the question, “What is the nicest thing a non-family member has ever done for you?”

Lisa Bonnice’s Story
Award-winning author, Shift Network program host, and host of the Intuitive Medicine Summit

EXCERPT: Anyway, my few minutes were quickly over and I went back to the conference, which was already in progress. And I was on cloud nine already when Neale made a point to track me down and find me out of all those people to tell me that he’d been flipping through the book and he just absolutely loved it. He went on and on about it, that he’d never seen anything like it and he wanted to do whatever he could to help me get it out there. And he gave me his contact information, his phone number and email address, and offered to write a foreword for the next edition.

Cyndi Dale’s Story
Energy healer, Shift faculty, and a featured speaker in the Intuitive Medicine Summit

EXCERPT: And so I decided that I wanted to die. I decided I was done. I decided I was going to leave. And so I told my parents, “I’m going to die.” And they looked at me like they did with many of the phrases that I would utter. And they said, "Whatever," and between themselves said, "Isn’t she imaginative?" And I woke up the next morning really, really ill. I had the flu, I had a fever. I was very sick.

Masami Covey’s Story
Health intuitive, Shift faculty, and a featured speaker in the Intuitive Medicine Summit

EXCERPT: I know that she could see that I was becoming increasingly angry... really, really deeply resentful and angry at the world — in part, because I totally felt alone and I didn’t have a home to go back to, or the family that I could connect with. And so one day she said that she and her husband Larry wanted me to live with them and use their spare room, which was their daughter’s room. And at that time, I didn’t know that they had lost their only daughter a year earlier in a car accident. I ended up staying at their home, and for the first time in my life I witnessed a deep, loving, and caring relationship — and unbearable grief of losing their only child.

You can also watch and read Nicest Thing stories from five sumit speakers who are also Shift faculty — Judith Orloff, MD, Dr. Shamini Jain, Lavinia Plonka, David Crow, and Daisy Lee.

Qigong as a Tool for Conscious Evolution
By Daisy Lee, a featured speaker in the Intuitive Medicine Summit

Qigong has been popularized as a Chinese health practice that synchronizes slow, gentle, flowing movements with breath and body awareness, but is lesser known as a deep spiritual practice that can foster conscious evolution. As society roils under the stress of multiple crises, Qigong can regulate and harmonize our fight or flight response, while also bringing perspective on how to reconnect with the greater wisdom of the Universe. The Mystical Gifts for Medical Intuition Within Your Chakras
By Cyndi Dale, a featured speaker in the Intuitive Medicine Summit

My client wanted to know if she might require surgery for a knee problem. Instantly, my own knee throbbed. Meditating on the pain for a moment, I asked what might occur to the knee pain, which I had empathically “borrowed” from my client, if she didn’t have the surgery. The pain intensified. I took the other approach. “What could happen if the client does have surgery?” The pain disappeared. To read more, click here.

Lessons from a Powerful Full Moon
By Mona Delfino, a featured speaker in the Intuitive Medicine Summit

Full moons are the most amazing healers in our world! Their gravitational pulls and pushes are always in the best interest of our human lives, desires, and collective knowledge. During 2020, we were all having to learn about change through COVID. The full moons and eclipses at that time were all intended to move us into a rapid shift. To read more, click here.

Racial Healing & Justice

A note from Rev. Dr. Aliah MaJon, Chief Inclusion Officer for The Shift Network:

It’s 2021, and those of us who live in the United States are finding that it’s become commonplace to hear about something called " systemic racism." But what exactly is systemic racism? Let me first provide you with a personal definition from my own experiences of systemic racism — four arresting examples from my family’s life and my own life — before providing you with what might be described as an academic definition. Here is my list:

1) When I was an all “A’s” student in community college back in Detroit (my hometown), I was not informed by the institution, any of my advisors, and not even by one of my caring professors that I was eligible for scholarships based on my outstanding grade point average. Instead, I was told to take out a student loan, or talk to my family about somehow raising the money needed to continue my education at a university. Neither of those were realistic options, so I ended up dropping out of school. Decades later, I finally obtained a doctorate degree.

2) Also, as a young person, my parents could only rent — not buy — housing for us because of what is known as redlining, which kept darker-skinned folks like us out of the nicer neighborhoods. So my father and mother paid rent for most of my childhood years, even though they could absolutely afford to purchase a home and had good credit, at least as much as one could have good credit without any large assets.

3) Later in life when I was a single mother and only working part time, whenever my child was displaying worrisome symptoms of an illness, when I’d call my White male family doctor, he would say take him to the children’s hospital emergency room. This happened even when I called his practice during regular office hours; it was the pat answer for almost every circumstance. Emergency rooms were for the disenfranchised where you had to wait for hours with a sick child — because just in case you needed it, you could access certain financial assistance programs if you couldn’t pay the fees.

4) Finally, when I was growing up in Detroit, before the adults had fully come to terms with it, my parents and our relatives and most of their close friends were always reminiscing about a once vibrant and happy Black community. It was known fondly as Black Bottom (I never liked this degrading name), and they told story after story about what existed before the new expressway ran through it. This uprooted and dislocated the majority of Black-owned businesses, a large portion of which ended up being shuttered forever. Entrepreneurship became a rare vocation.

This is what I have personally lived through because of systemic racism. It’s not a pretty story, and I’m sorry to say that I’m not alone in these experiences. I have also witnessed these kinds of situations in the lives of others like me. The material included in this issue will tell the details of more such stories. These stories don’t belong to the past; systemic racism is just as insidious today as it’s always been.

Now, as I promised, the academic-type definition:

Systemic Racism is inherent in every part of American life, from transportation infrastructure to housing to healthcare delivery to education... to literally everything! Wikipedia defines it like this: "Institutional racism, also known as systemic racism, is a form of racism that is embedded through laws and regulations within society or an organization. It can lead to such issues as discrimination in criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power, and education, among other issues. Institutional racism has harmful effects on people, especially on students in school where it is prominent." Discover more in this 4-minute video.

Please take a look at what’s here to learn more, and do consider joining us here at The Shift Network as we do our part to help transform what has given rise to it all. We’ve just begun our commitment to co-create a conscious “journey” to transform racism — systemic and otherwise.

All People of Color experience systemic racism in one form or another throughout their lives. Even people like Rosalind Brewer, the new CEO Of Walgreens, as you’ll see in this 25-minute interview with Hoda Kotb on TODAY.

Urban planning has been historically racist and damaging to communities of color, as Helen Harman explains in “ Highways of History: The Santa Monica Freeway and Sugar Hill, Los Angeles,” and Johnny Miller of The Guardian details in Roads to Nowhere: How Infrastructure Built on American Inequality.

This 1923 ad for a Minneapolis housing development was typical for its day. Restrictions were written into deeds in many area neighborhoods like this that kept out anybody who wasn’t white. Their language said plainly things like: “Premises shall not be sold, mortgaged, or leased to or occupied by any person or persons other than members of the Caucasian race.”

Richard Rothstein, research associate at the Economic Policy Institute and fellow at the Thurgood Marshall Institute of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, explores this issue further in this 58-minute video presentation: “The Color of Law: Housing, Segregation & Education.”
