Always Enough By Barbara J. Winter (a featured speaker in the Money & Women Summit)
Coco Chanel, who said a lot of smart things, once observed, “There are people who have money and people who are rich.” It’s not hard to figure out which is which.
The people whom I think of as rich are those who have a practical prosperity consciousness. My sister Margaret is such a person. I have long admired her ability to use whatever resources she has to the max.
When we were in a pottery shop in Sienna, Italy, Margaret was captivated by a beautiful plate. We left the shop to contemplate making such a hefty purchase and as she considered the pros and cons she said, “I have noticed that when I’m anxious about money and start skimping, I never have any money. When I’m relaxed about it, I always have enough.”
Money is legal tender and it’s also emotional currency. By devaluing and pushing away our emotional responses to money we, especially as women, lose access to working with our actual experience of money and bringing our whole selves to our money lives. And since most of us don’t talk with our best friends about the money dilemmas we are facing, we’ve lost additional grounding as talking with others is one of the primary ways women learn. We locate ourselves as we talk to an attentive listener about situations and people in our lives. And we learn from their sharing of their experiences and insights. We are marginalized financially by making less than men, which translates into having way less over our lifetimes. And the more we are treated as if we don’t know by the financial services, at work, or in the home — i.e., mansplaining — the more we doubt ourselves.
You may have heard that after people reach about $75,000 of income, their happiness levels don’t increase merely by having more money. This research supports many people’s beliefs that what truly makes us happy can’t be bought (at least after we have food on the table, a roof over our heads, and health care).
But there’s a more complex answer to the age-old question of whether money can buy you happiness. Other research suggests that, indeed, having more money can make you happier — but it depends on how you use it. It turns out spending on others gives you a bigger happiness boost than spending on yourself.
Hey, ladies! By show of hands, how many of you want to pay off debt? That many huh? No worries, so do I and so does just about everyone you know. Unfortunately, debt is a way of life for many women. I didn’t want that to be my life, so I created a 7-step, pay-off-debt system that will have me debt-free in a few years! My pay-off-debt system is working so well for me that I had to extend my financial help to my Sis-Stars.
You may be the kind of feminist who claims the title and practices the feminist theory you learned all about when you studied women's studies and women's suffrage in college. You even read The Feminine Mystique, maybe even joined some woman suffrage association, can recite all the famous feminist lines from third-wave feminism and really get down on International Women's Day. Or you may be the kind who says, “I’m not a feminist,” (and claims to be against "radical feminism" because it's just so "radical"), but then goes out there and acts like one anyway by totally living out feminist theology. Whatever the case, here are five lessons on women's empowerment from a famous list of feminists that you can apply to your life and your career right away, regardless of what type of feminist you are (or aren’t).
What do you do when you hit a wall, with money? When you’re not just stuck, you’re up-to-your-elbows-in-molasses stuck. You keep asking the same questions and getting nowhere but more confused … and that creative positivity you’re known for? Must be on vacation.
You’re not crazy or broken. This happens to all of us. This is what it feels like to be in the middle of a “money riddle.” The bad news? It can be uncomfortable. But the good news? There truly are ways to work through it… and come out the other side financially enlightened (at least a smidgen more!).

Two little boys return home from school to find a mound of horse poop on their front lawns. The first little boy flies into a rage. “Who’s going to clean up all this horse poop?” he asks. The second little boy beams with joy and shouts, “Where’s the pony?”
In my life, no matter the challenge, I try to look for the pony. This July 26 I will celebrate my 16th year as a cancer survivor. There is no other journey in my life that has taught me more or that was more difficult to navigate. Perhaps the biggest gift was seeing my work as a professional organizer in a new light.

Global Fund for Women was founded in 1987 in Palo Alto, California, by four bold women who were convinced that women’s human rights were essential to social, economic, and political change around the world, for the benefit of all. Frustrated by a lack of interest in funding women’s human rights, they founded an organization to fund grassroots women-led movements directly. They knew that by trusting their grantee partners to tackle the problems they were uniquely qualified to solve, permanent change would happen. They were right.
We are a global champion for the human rights of women and girls. We use our powerful networks to find, fund, and amplify the courageous work of women who are building social movements and challenging the status quo. By shining a spotlight on critical issues, we rally communities of advocates who take action and invest money to empower women.
We are a nonprofit organization that supports a more prosperous future for the most impoverished women in the world using the power of micro loans. We are committed to compassionately serve the poorest people and communities worldwide through a network of women, raising awareness and funds, and using micro loans to support efforts to eliminate extreme poverty by 2025. Our vision is to be a leader in the worldwide movement to eliminate extreme poverty by 2025.

Every woman needs a WIFE, who counsels and empowers, who listens and advises, and offers comfort when needed. The Women’s Institute for Financial Education (WIFE.org) is the oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial education to women in their quest for financial independence.
Women face tremendous challenges as they move through life’s transitions, from childhood to adult, from college to career, from single to married, to widowhood or divorce, and into the retirement years. And women are concerned about the financial wellbeing of their families as well as themselves, making sure that those they love are sheltered within their own financial success. Our mission is to empower women to succeed and prosper.
Women's Money, a non-profit organization, gives women a proprietary financial education and accountability system to help achieve personal financial wellness and resiliency. Women’s Money has successfully piloted its innovative financial education program in Nevada with 10 financial education conferences in the past three years.
Our Mission: Increasing financial resiliency, and social and economic justice for women and girls.
Our Vision: To reduce poverty in America by 50% by providing support and action steps for women to invest in their education and retirement.
