The Evidential Mediumship Academy — Essentials Training offers a roadmap to mediumship mastery based on the wisdom, philosophy, methods, and techniques of Mavis Pittilla, the iconic British medium known as the Grande Dame of Mediumship, and one of the world’s great mediumship teachers, before she passed in 2022.
Along with her wife and business partner Jean Else — a lifelong educator and Director and Chief Executive of the Mavis Pittilla-Authorized Teacher Training Program — Mavis developed a rigorous and robust online training program to guide students through their personal, spiritual, and professional development in mediumship.
The Shift Network now offers this comprehensive Level 1 training program, guided by Jean Else and Suzanne Giesemann, Shift’s lead mediumship faculty who was trained and mentored by Mavis. They will be joined by a cohort of Mavis Pittilla-Authorized Teachers leading Mentorship Circles for a dynamic and unique learning experience.
Mavis Pittilla was a luminary in the world of spiritualism and mediumship and left an indelible mark on the field of spiritual communication.
Born in the UK, she found herself grappling with a life-threatening condition and was given only months to live at the age of 27. During this uncertain time, the spirit world revealed itself to her.
A man appeared in her living room urging her to “go find a healer” — his message as enigmatic as his presence. The encounter was so vivid and undeniably real that Mavis questioned her sanity.
It was an experience that would’ve shaken anyone to their core. Yet, for Mavis, the encounter opened a door for her — one she couldn’t close, even if she had wanted to.
It was as if the trauma of her diagnosis had punched a hole in the fabric of her reality, creating a portal to the spirit world. The spirit world then became her ever-present reality.
In retrospect, it’s clear this profound disruption in Mavis’ life was a catalyst. It marked the start of her transformative journey — one that led her to healing herself, and to her lifelong mission of serving as a bridge between the physical world and the spirit realm.
She went on to provide countless sittings, group sessions, lectures, and classes. Perhaps one of her most significant contributions was at the esteemed Arthur Findlay College, where she served as senior tutor and a beacon of light for many years.
Alongside Jean, Mavis dedicated the rest of her life to training new mediums. Their shared vision was to guide students to become the “whole medium,” as opposed to teaching them only the mechanics of mediumship.

This unique training program is a rare opportunity to study Mavis’ methods and legendary evidence-based mediumship framework in depth.
This year-long program is structured like academic quarters. There are three learning cycles (Parts I, II, and III) consisting of unit-specific classes and Mentorship Circles, with each cycle spanning three months. After the conclusion of Parts I and II, each student will participate for one month in a concentrated practicum on the learning cycle just completed.
After the conclusion of the Part III learning cycle, each student will write an essay during the final month of the program that captures their personal reflections on their transformational journey through the program.
Upon successful completion of the year-long program, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion affirming that you’ve become proficient in the science, theory, and practical applications covered in Level 1 of Mavis Pittilla’s “whole mediumship” teachings.
Mentorship Circles, an essential part of this mediumship program, are designed to deepen and strengthen your practices through frequent and supportive interactions with both peers and teachers. With student-teacher ratios of no more than 15:1, instructors will encourage and mentor you on using proper language and honoring your craft in your sittings while providing you with pastoral care. They will support you in developing a profound connection with the spirit world and offer practical guidance you can immediately incorporate into your mediumship work. The program also fosters a highly personalized collaboration among peers, who will engage in mediumship readings with one another to help implement the evidential mediumship tools being taught.

Jean will teach three class sessions per month, with classes meeting on Tuesday every week of each of the three learning cycles (Parts I, II, and III) to cover the corresponding units. Suzanne will teach one masterclass per month (see below). Studying the science and theory of evidential mediumship provides a solid foundation and understanding of how to connect with the spirit world and practice mediumship ethically, while illuminating the profound impact it can have on our lives. Each 90-minute class session includes time for live Q&A with the instructor.
After each of Jean’s Tuesday class sessions, there will be an optional 30-minute interactive practice session. You’ll be placed in an intimate group with several other participants on the Zoom call to interact, share, and do additional practices to help you further integrate the lessons. Practice sessions are not recorded for playback; if you’re unable to attend the live sessions, the online community group allows you to connect with each other and find alternative times to interact.

During each month that Jean’s class sessions are held, one Tuesday per month will be dedicated to a masterclass with world-renowned medium Suzanne Giesemann. This is a unique opportunity to be mentored by Suzanne and learn more specifics about her tested and verified evidence-based approach to mediumship — the process of discovering details only the sitter could know during readings. She will offer her expert guidance, share her reflections and insights, and close each of her nine sessions with live Q&A.
Every week that Jean’s class sessions and Suzanne’s masterclasses are held will also feature a Mentorship Circle. Led by a cohort of Mavis Pittilla-Authorized Teacher Mentors, Circles will include dedicated time for Q&A and be offered for a variety of days and times to accommodate varying time zones, levels of experience, and availability. Once a specific Circle has been chosen, each student will remain with their same small group and mentor for the entirety of the Essentials Training. Attendance of all Mentorship Circles (4 per month, 36 total) is required to earn the program’s Certificate of Completion.
Digital video recordings will be available for you to stream in high-quality format of each live class session. You’ll never have to worry about missing a session, and you can watch anytime and anywhere at your convenience.
Each Mentorship Circle session will be recorded and distributed to individual Circle members only — providing a safe container and maintaining confidentiality. You’ll be able to review your progress based on feedback from your mentor and watch your growth and development over time. Witnessing your own practice and presentation is an invaluable part of your mediumship journey.
Audio recordings will be available for you to stream in high-quality MP3 format of each live class session. You’ll never have to worry about missing a session, and you can listen anytime and anywhere at your convenience.
In addition to the high-quality videos and MP3 audios, you’ll also receive the entire session transcription of each live class session. You can then review, print, and highlight the insights and practices you found most impactful.
