Continue laying the foundations of your Body Temple by moving up to the knee.
Learn Shen Fa of the knees to experience four different ways to prevent misalignment during practice. By preventing any misalignment of the knees, the tendons and ligaments in your knees will heal. Enjoy increased balance, stability, and strength in every movement.
The metal element also includes the large intestine. Continue your study of Five Elements Theory and the lore of the 10 organs.
Learn a classic standing posture called Three Treasure Stance, San Ti Shir, or Heaven and Earth Qigong — the foundation of the lineage art of Xingyiquan, or Form and Will Boxing. This posture is the heart of the metal element and an impactful lung Qigong and eye exercise.

Discover how to level your pelvis, even when the lower back is stiff or tense — and how to pump synovial fluid into the hip joints to lubricate and heal them.

By completing the foundation of your Body Temple, you can start building the frame of your building — with lessons on the spine.
In spinal Shen Fa, begin at the base of the spine in the lumbar vertebrae of the lower back. Because lower back pain or weakness can be truly debilitating, learning to open and relax your lower back and relieve pain can be life-changing.
Sciatic pain begins in the lower back when spinal misalignment caused by tension or injury pinches the sciatic nerve. Becoming skillful in relieving the compression and misalignment in the lower back will allow you to prevent or relieve sciatic pain.
Expand your Qi Refinery by understanding the metal element and expanding your knowledge of the lore of the bladder. At the top of the lumbar vertebrae and between the kidneys are the thoracic vertebrae. These are considered the “gate of life” — a powerful energy center that holds your original Qi and pre-birth essence.

Continue to build the frame and structure of your Body Temple by learning the midback Shen Fa.
Go deeper into “plucking up” the spine and opening the vertebrae of the midback. Discover more about the diaphragm and the actions of breathing, balancing the ribcage and twisting your mid body.
In the Qi Refinery portion of the module, return to the wood element in the five elements, and deepen your understanding of the liver and its emotional and energetic role.
Review squatting and lifting Qigong to help disperse stagnant energy, detoxify the liver, and improve vision (the liver is connected to the eyes in TCM). Explore liver health in relation to anger and how to release the residual energy of anger trapped within the body with sound and vibration during Qigong.

Ascending to the top of your Body Temple, continue learning the secrets of strengthening your upper spine.
Having a strong upper back and chest helps unlock the energy of the lungs and heart, and increases your breath capacity, making breathing easier and more pleasant. Improving your upper spinal alignment also provides the base for a healthy neck, supporting your head gracefully and relieving neck and shoulder pain.
In building your Qi Refinery, deepen your understanding of the secrets of the wood element from Five Elements Theory and learn about the lore of the gall bladder in TCM and Qigong.
The gall bladder is considered to have a direct relation to courage. The liver has a direct relation to decisiveness and will power. Learn how to support your liver and gall bladder health, harmony, and function — and take command in your life.
In this module, you’ll:

Building your Body Temple finishes with the top of your frame through the Shen Fa of the neck and head.
This begins with lifting and balancing the head on the top of the neck in a structurally strong and relaxed position. Opening the top of the spine and lifting the head skyward lifts the spirits and completes your journey to open, relax, rebalance, and rejuvenate your spine.
To continue building your Qi Refinery, keep unfolding the five elements by learning about the heart in TCM and Qigong.
Gain a wonderful tool from the lore of the heart and fire element Qigong exercise to gain new awareness of — and the ability to control — your rib muscles and ribs.
Use them to exercise the arteries and veins inside your chest surrounding your heart. This subtle and gentle action maintains the elasticity of your venous system and gently stimulates your heart meridian function.
