Befriend the ongoing unfolding of your body, mind, and soul — including the states of breakdown, ambiguity, mystery, and vulnerability along the way — through a powerful visualization of your own metamorphosis.
Rest courageously in the sacredness of your authentic self — your inner Everyday Mystic — and reinvent your spiritual life with the confidence that you can always find safe refuge from the chaos of the world within your own being.
It’s common knowledge that butterflies start their lives as caterpillars.
While not everyone feels an affinity for those tiny 6-legged crawlers, we all can relate to the analogy of a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis.
Yet, are you aware of how dramatic and presumably painful the process is for those beautiful creatures to come into being?
A caterpillar has to completely digest itself... dissolving entirely into a liquid state before it develops its beautiful new butterfly body. And even then, their wings are initially soft and droopy, which delays their ability to take flight.
Mirabai Starr, interspiritual teacher and innovative translator of the mystics, gently holds this as a metaphor for the human experience and the continual evolution of the soul.
It’s her belief that we all carry within us an everyday mystic, and like certain indestructible cells of the caterpillar — even in its most challenging state of deconstruction — that part of ourselves is always there, waiting to be unlocked.
Mirabai, an award-winning author of contemporary translations of sacred literature, has taught philosophy and world religions for more than 20 years. She also co-led The Shift Network’s premiere year-long Global Mystics Certification program.
She has the divinely feminine capacity to guide people in reinventing their spiritual lives — releasing their traditional programming about what spirituality is supposed to be, and what it’s supposed to feel like.
She inspires people instead to unveil and birth their own inner mystic — holding them with profound compassion as they return time and again to the landscape of their heart and learn to look at everyone and everything through the eyes of love.
Join Mirabai in a complimentary online event in which she’ll explore the metaphor of the butterfly...
She’ll share how, throughout the journey of our lives and the unfurling of our souls, we experience multiple breakdowns and re-emergences, which can leave us feeling lost, uncertain, or even despairing... especially at a time when there are such challenging circumstances in our world.
Mirabai will invite you to rest in the awkward stage of the unknown, of the chrysalis — and even to embrace the discomfort — before you grow and spread your wings anew and take flight into the next phase of your transformation.
In this transformative hour, you’ll discover:
- A potent guided practice to visualize your own metamorphosis, as Mirabai lovingly walks you through its 4 stages — from caterpillar to butterfly
- A deep dive into the teachings of the ongoing unfolding of our bodies, minds, and souls as everyday mystics in this beautiful, broken, and constantly burgeoning world
- The importance and sometimes inevitability of transforming your inherited beliefs about enlightenment, freedom, salvation, and ultimate awakening — and the power of bowing at the feet of the reality of yourself and others
- How to make friends with ambiguity, mystery, and vulnerability — and rest courageously in the silence of unknowing with self-acceptance and peace
- How becoming an everyday mystic has global impact, because working on ourselves lifts up the whole planet
Mirabai will share the image of the silkworm — from the wisdom of the 16th-century Spanish mystic St. Teresa of Ávila — likening it to the human process of undoing our spiritual preconceptions.
Like caterpillars, we’re all born with everything we need to become butterflies. With Mirabai’s guidance, you’ll begin to liberate, bit by bit, the information — the knowing — that your inner everyday mystic carries.
Being a mystic often involves deconstructing your old beliefs and ways of being in the world, which can be difficult and disruptive...
... while also cultivating an almost childlike sense of curiosity, with the ability to perceive the Sacred rising in any ordinary moment.
Being an everyday mystic means fully welcoming the human experience in your current incarnation — exactly as you are — while continually weaving a renewed sense of meaning, peace, and creative energy.
It means allowing yourself to be guided courageously in a tumultuous world, remaining steady and grounded — a refugee, as Mirabai says, within your own heart.
Living in a state of deconstruction, however, is not sustainable... and Mirabai is eager to assist you in befriending and becoming intimate with the ongoing process of your soul’s journey, as you experience multiple meltdowns and re-emergences along the way...
... so you can reclaim your life as holy ground and show up with as much love in your heart and strength in your body and mind as you can cultivate.
When you join us for this hour, you’ll also hear about Mirabai’s brand-new 12-week course, where you’ll dive more deeply into what it looks like to live as an everyday mystic in a world in upheaval.
You’ll learn how to co-create with the Divine a new, authentic way of being alive — as a mystic — grounded in the perennial wisdom of the ancients, but informed by a wildly creative, responsive, new approach to claiming the whole landscape of your life as sacred.

Ever since I met her when she was a teenager at the Lama Foundation, Mirabai Starr has been absorbed in the teachings of the great mystic saints, especially the women. “... brings understanding, and especially compassionate wisdom.”
I have been present during Mirabai Starr’s classes at the University of New Mexico in Taos, on both philosophy and the theologies of the major world religions. One would expect from such a background that she has gathered and synthesized a dazzling amount of knowledge, but in addition she brings understanding, and especially compassionate wisdom. These are godsent gifts that are simply given to her. Her life experiences of suffering and love pour into the cup of different levels of understanding, which she offers so generously as a teacher, lecturer, writer, and guest speaker. I’m enriched and honored by her friendship.
— Fr. William Hart McNichols, iconographer and Roman Catholic priest
