Have you felt drawn to understand where you come from, yet unsure how to approach your ancestry — especially when parts of that story may be unknown, painful, or difficult to reconcile?
Many people sense a longing for something they can’t quite name: a deeper connection to their roots, a stronger sense of belonging, or a clearer understanding of who they are and where they come from. Yet few of us were taught how to explore these questions with honesty, compassion, and respect.
Curandera and cultural educator Grace Alvarez Sesma teaches that these longings often point to something larger than individual experience.
Join Maestra Grace for an illuminating free online event, where she’ll share an Indigenous perspective on ancestral connection that invites curiosity and understanding rather than judgment, and relationship rather than isolation.
You’ll explore how historical experiences continue to shape our relationships with ourselves, our families, our communities, and the land — and why reconnecting with lineage can become a powerful source of healing, belonging, and self-trust.
You’ll get a sense of this reconnection as Maestra Grace guides you through a heart-centered visualization designed to help you restore your relationship with the land your ancestors once knew and the wisdom still carried within your lineage.
As you connect with the guardians of those ancestral lands, you may receive insights about your heritage, your resilience, and the deeper story that lives within you. Through this gentle yet powerful practice, you may begin experiencing ancestry as a living relationship that can offer guidance, support, and a renewed sense of connection.
Across cultures and generations, forces such as migration, displacement, assimilation, and colonial expansion disrupted relationships to land, lineage, language, community, self, and spiritual traditions.
Families adapted in order to survive — sometimes by leaving behind cultural practices, hiding parts of their identity, staying silent about painful histories, or redefining what it meant to belong. Many of us continue to live with the effects of these disruptions, even when we don’t recognize their historical roots.
Over time, these adaptations often became the beliefs, coping strategies, family dynamics, and ways of relating that were passed from one generation to the next.
Yet, alongside these disruptions, something else was passed down: resilience, wisdom, and the enduring capacity to reconnect. And for many people, reclaiming that connection restores a deeper sense of home within themselves, their communities, and the larger story they belong to.
Rooted in Indigenous values of reciprocity, consent, and respect, Maestra Grace’s approach to re-membering the past recognizes that healing is not something we do alone, but something that unfolds through our relationships with one another, our ancestors, and the world around us.
Rather than approaching ancestral stories through judgment or shame, you’ll discover a path grounded in understanding and compassion.
Whether you know a great deal about your ancestry or very little at all, you’ll leave with a broader understanding of the forces that shaped your family story, practical ways to engage ancestral work with integrity, and a renewed appreciation for the resilience, wisdom, and humanity carried through generations.
